Airplane at their fiercest - Jesse!

Hello, from the frozen North MTL ! My first pick in the row show.
Avatar 🎸 9:15pm

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:17pm

I get so much more from Jefferson Airplane live recordings than I ever got from the studio versions. Tom Dash played a whole bunch of these a few months back, and until that moment I was like "what's all the fuss about?" It all makes more sense now.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:17pm

If the bass sounds like this, it's gotta be the Airplane.
Hi all, @Jesse. Trippin' along with y'all tonight.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm

Don't know that I heard any MX-80 Sound back in the day. Not something often heard on a radio, and not super common in the bins. Residents had the 1-minute videos, which were... ...very difficult to describe the impact of. Snakefinger had some cool vids as well, but once you heard the music, you really wanted to see who the hell was doing it (which makes the eyeball-heads very funny.) Chanced across a bit of Tuxedo Moon (liked it!) and now I really love the MX-80 Sound edge.

I'm done for now.

"Friendly high school acquaintances, Bostrom and Curt Kirkwood were in the dawn of their twenties, unemployed and “starting to hang out because we were the only guys home,”

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:27pm

Aw don't be hard on yourself Hillzy. You can't be sad about hearing something new. That's the beauty of music - there's always more to learn. We can't ever know all that we don't know!
Avatar 🎸 9:29pm

so true @gurldoggie, forever constantly amazed at what is out there if you just look for it aka why we're all here, ha!

Never loved any sampler albums, but 'Frank Johnson's Favorites' on Ralph Records is one of my all time faves, comp. or otherwise.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:29pm

This is a perfect case in point! Lifelong Television and Peter Stampfel fan, and I've never heard this perfect cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm

hillzy: I feel the pain, but WFMU has helped me cst off the shame of the late-life finding.

Oh wow, MM cover (Didn't actually hear Television until the '90s. Again, not easy to come across in Colorado. Passed on the record a few times. Heard about them very early in Creem Magazine, and was intrigued, as I paged past to he Alice Cooper bits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm

I completely missed the meat puppets.

I saw The Meat Puppets evolve from a noise band to a county psych band at lightning speed. Hairy freaks when that was not the look to have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm

Ha Gurldoggie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm

This might be the perfect MM cover. Seriously.

lol @gurldoggie everything on frow show is pretty much new to me almost always unless something is replayed from a prior show

That was my creative writing.
Avatar 9:31pm

Yeah Franco, all the suspendered punx were ready to mosh pit at that gig in '84, and the Puppets turned up all paisleyed out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm

listener 126464:: It was spot on! The cover also has the sonic structure of the original. Or, i could be high. Or both!

Evening ! ...Man, love Jack Casady. You can hear there how he could also do SST. For instance.
Maybe this is like how all the best Hendrix covers are not by Rawk Gittarists.

RR! Also on the spectrum of the ancient.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm

Franco.: I associate them with the Butthole Surfers (never saw either, damnit. Biggest regret next to The Cramps.)[breathe] Did they have similar development, artistically? Could this be my doctoral thesis?

bob Dublon ..milw/atl: I'm familiar with Plasticland, if only in name. Brian went out with the Arts editor of the Daily Cardinal, in Madison. That translated to having the Femmes play an end-of-year gig at the Union South for about 50 of us. I danced myself sore!
bob dublon from Plasticland:

met Tom Verlaine once thru Brian Ritchie ..Tom told me his mom took him to see Sun Ra when he was 13 ..no wonder he could come up with Marquee Moon..or was that Richard Lloyd??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm

having an early jazz influence probably also played a role in his rejection of guitar effects

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm

bob dublon: Spooner was sharp (2/3 of Garbage!) and they always packed the place. My wife went to school with two brothers in The Appliances. They stay in touch.

I was a budding photojournalist who show a bunch of shows. Shot fot the Cardinal for several years. ($4-$5 bucks per shot printed. I paid for food!) Had a great time as I'd moved from Colorado and started to see bands I'd been reading about passing through.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:30pm

@Bobobob The Frow Show isn't always avant garde. It's occasionally future positive, past tense, adolescent, neoteric, obscurantist, free range, open season and highly flammable. Sublime more often than not, and ALWAYS worth a listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm

bob dublon: ...although having long hair, I gravitated towards the HC bands like Mecht Mench, Tar Babies, Idle Worship and the destructive art of Hollywood Autopsy. I got lucky that a handful of pics that I sold to zines ($2 each) showed up in a few books down the road.
Gaston D Musella:

Americana Surgery Dervishes. Bravo
Gaston D Musella:

Cue Persian Surgery Dervishes. Are you telling the dj what to play? Shut your mouth and listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
