Mr. Fine Wine:

I keep hearing a teeny bit of the Jeopardy theme in here!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
ultradamno:

Becky! Tonkies!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
Handy Haversack:

Becky! Tonka Trucks!

100 percent, Mr. FW.

OK, gotta go call my dear aunt in the hospital, but I'll be listening. Back soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
Becky:

Oh, absolutely!
  8:05pm
loveless:

Hello all. In the office alone working. Radio cranked to 11.

This song puts me in the great Jarmusch film - No Lovers Left Alive
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm
Pauly from Clifton:

Hey Becky, gang!

Er…ONLY Lovers Left Alive

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
steveo:

hey there sounding great. my better half heard the jeopardy but i was tardy and missed it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
steveo:

oh it's back!
  8:09pm
Kevin in urbana:

Yes it’s soo good Wenzo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
steveo:

"Because They're Young" was written by Aaron Schroeder, Don Costa, and Wally Gold, and produced by Lee Hazlewood and Lester Sill.[2] It ranked #37 on Billboard magazine's Top Hot 100 songs of 1960.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
steveo:

nothing in the wikipedia page about jeopardy though :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Handy Haversack:

It would be a good Final Jeopardy, steveo -- and would reveal those who know Too Much!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
ultradamno:

And Bruce Anderson. The big one for me.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

Rachel Nagy R.I.P. (pronounced "nay-ghee" in case you're unsure; not "noj," as Hungarians would pronounce it).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
Becky:

Allegedly the Jeopardy! theme was written by Merv Griffin!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Let's see if there are any going out to Noël Coward tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Becky:

Thanks, MFW. If you couldn't tell, I wasn't sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Becky:

I grew up with a "noj."
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Handy Haversack:

So many tributes. We just keep losing them. The Ronnie Spector tributes have been so touched by celebration, too, as she was close to so many WFMUers, and the joy of knowing her and her art was so clear. The Rachel Nagy tributes are so tinged by knowing, whatever her age was, it happened too damn soon.

Bruce Anderson led to overlap between Creamo and Ken, which has to be pretty rare.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm
Becky:

Also, apparently there was an argument on the chat about Rachel's age. If you all want to believe that her and I were watching the X-Files in middle school together, I think she would be okay with that.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Gaylord Fields:

Among other sad things that come with Rachel Nagy's passing, there's also one less Charlie Rich fan on this earth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Dominick:

A fave!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
Gaylord Fields:

Sometimes it astounds me that one band has covered all my favorite songs, but the Detroit Cobras were that group.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
ultradamno:

I was, along with Creamo, by how many people were being first introduced to MX-80 Sound by that tribute. They should be as much a fundamental of post-punk education as Pere Ubu, Wire or Joy Division.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

I read somewhere that she was 37 at death. Which is laughably off the mark. I can attest that she was a full-grown adult when they started the band in '93-'94.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Handy Haversack:

What do you think is responsible, ultradamno?

I started a seminal, outlook-changing band at 14. But it was in Canada, so you all wouldn't know it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Becky:

@Gaylord - isn't it amazing??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
Dano59:

It might have been Midnite Blues that made me a huge fan of the Cobras. And I hadn't even heard the Charlie Rich version
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
Gaylord Fields:

Honestly, Becky! Literally every song the did is an all-time fave! Incredible taste, and a singer in Rachel who can pull off singing those favorites without a drop in quality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Becky:

What ovaries to even try.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
ultradamno:

I really don't know, I'd think a Ralph Record pedigree alone would have secured it. But I guess not, the records they have done since then have largely been good (though there's only one Out Of The Tunnel, which may have set up expectations they haven't been interested in meeting) but not well distributed, which hasn't helped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Dano59:

there's an unofficial 2-CD set called Songs the Detroit Cobras taught us. So many greats! or obscure gems, the only music Rachel approved of.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:27pm
Gaylord Fields:

Rachel had the ovaries of an elephant, Becky!
  8:27pm
Morgan:

great set Becky

Hello Honky Tonk Radio Girl with Becky and poster children. Will have to pay attention to Detroit Cobras going forward. Thanks for the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm
Dano59:

gino is a coward/rachel is a coward?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Dano59:

The import LP of early Cobras singles/non-LP stuff is well worth getting. I suddenly just remembered that I had that.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
Handy Haversack:

Is that "The Original Recordings," Dano59?
  8:37pm
Andres:

Hi, Becky! Appreciated the Rachel Nagy tribute. Also, haven’t previously heard ovaries used in an expression like that. I like it. Elephant ovaries is an image that will stay with me, Gaylord.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
Becky:

I mean, ovaries are a LOT more resilient than the equivalent.
  8:39pm
Niall-iOS:

Man, Dallas Frazier. This guy.
  8:39pm
Morgan:

im sorry it’s distasteful but i can’t help but wonder if some deaths are rona related right now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
Dano59:

that's the one, Handy
  8:42pm
Niall-iOS:

Wait, two Dallas songs in a row… ah, he didn’t die, did he?

Niall-iOS:

Ah, damn it. He didn’t get to enjoy the “Cocaine and Rhinestones” halo like Gentry presumably did.
  8:43pm
Turk Necker:

It's not your imagination Morgan. 100.000's of deaths plus serious injuries from the poison.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm

Happy 76th birthday, Dolly. You remain the best. <3

K8: "Shh."

  8:47pm
Turk Necker:

I have never heard a negative word about Dolly Parton.
  8:48pm
julian in LA:

this song never gets old
  8:49pm
Turk Necker:

This is quite an expanded production of Jolene..no?..
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:49pm
ultradamno:

I'm sure some anti-vaxxers have had things to say about her, but screw them.
  8:49pm
kev:

such a beautiful song
  8:52pm
Morgan:

that’s right Dolly funded that research
  8:52pm
Andres:

I learned about Dolly Parton’s book Songteller: My Life in Lyrics on this comments board. It was worth the months long wait for my turn from the library.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:52pm
Handy Haversack:

Sweet fancy moses, it's so good to have something to just celebrate. Well done, Becky! What a great thing. Thanks for bringing us back up and back to the living and the vital. Many, many thanks.

Youse take care of yourselves, Tonka Trucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm
Becky:

@Andres - such a great book! I recommend it for everyone's coffee table and bedside.
  8:55pm
Turk Necker:

@Morgan I forgot about that, but suspect it was from her heart and not financial interests.
