Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Son Of Pantz:

I'm hearing Golden Years by Bowie
Avatar 12:56pm
Mr Fab:

re Renegade Soundwave , I only found out a year or so ago that "Biting my nails" was a cover of a '70s obscurity. Needless to say, their version was very different from the orig.
Avatar 12:57pm
Ursula1000:

and Shack Up beat by Banbarra
Avatar 12:58pm
Ursula1000:

OMG I found that single in Australia of all places while on tour and I thought nah it couldn't be the same Biting My Nails...! when I pooped that 45 on the player my mind was blown
Avatar 1:03pm
Mr Fab:

Art Of Noise - maybe the first time i heard digital samples?
Avatar 1:03pm
Ursula1000:

popped not pooped---big difference!
Avatar 1:04pm
Mr Fab:

pooping a 45 would certainly blow my mind!
Avatar 1:04pm
Ursula1000:

yeah this was the Fairlight computer synth thingy that cost a fortune--one of the first samplers
Avatar 1:07pm
Mr Fab:

Aw, right, yeah I think i had already bought Kate Bush's "The Dreaming" which used the Fairlight. but it was just so much more noticeable when Art of Noise used it. Like, the samples ARE the song.

If you're a fan of the Art of Noise/Propaganda period ZTT sound, you should check out the third album by Germany's Trio (yes, the 'Da da da' guys): it features half of the AoN and several of the tracks have a very similar vibe
Avatar 1:13pm
Ursula1000:

been listening to the first 2 AFOS albums---really satisfying!
Avatar 1:13pm
worldsworstrecords:

Avatar 1:16pm
Mr Fab:

Interesting, Darryl - I had "Trio and Error" ( my high-school new wave band rocked the talent show with our cover of "Da Da Da,") but I must have missed that period of theirs.
Avatar 1:18pm
worldsworstrecords:

On its way to you now, U1k
Avatar 1:19pm
Ursula1000:

nice one!
Avatar 1:19pm
desi:

I'm smokin but not cloves ~ cheers,,, gateway FOS ~ lol
Avatar 1:20pm
worldsworstrecords:

yes, Mr F... although Da da da was a huge international hit their other material was overlooked outside of Germany: Trio and Error was a compilation of tracks from their first two LPs. The third - What's the Password - was much harder edged
Avatar 1:21pm
worldsworstrecords:

That Molchat Doma track was the business!
Avatar 1:23pm
Ursula1000:

it's funny--that Molchat Doma track gained some recent traction on TikTok and IG reels w people posting dances to it ala Wednesday from Addams Family---we couldn't resist and had our 9yr old get all gothed up and that silly clip has been viewed like 40k times! haha The internet is so weird.
Avatar 1:30pm

Avatar 1:38pm
Ursula1000:

wasn't sure if Wishful Thinking was first
Avatar 1:41pm
worldsworstrecords:

that was the remix album that came out later the same year ('85) there was a later album on Warners (IIRC) with a different line-up too
Avatar 1:43pm
Ursula1000:

I love how Claudia B from Propaganda posed for some Frankie clothes on the first FGTH album insert--loved that whole ZTT mystique
Avatar 1:43pm
Mr Fab:

not the '80s male-singer Fiends from LA that I'm familiar with, I'm guessing? But super cool regardless.
Avatar 1:45pm
Ursula1000:

These Fiends were a garage punk band from Vancouver
Avatar 1:52pm
Ursula1000:

Avatar 1:53pm

Beasties
Avatar 1:53pm
Mr Fab:

Yep. I bought this back when it first came out, and it pretty much set the standard in my mind for all sampling/turntablism/mashups that followed.
Avatar 1:58pm
Ursula1000:

I remember getting Mad Professor's Fast Forward Into Dub album on cassette and hearing this Orb sample and getting all giddy!
