Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
Basement chamber music. Diggin the Harbour. And hi MOM WHIG!

Hello Gaylord and faithful listeners. You know WFMU is part of your life when you have to check the comments board to get ahold of someone. There you are, DjLorraine!🙋♂️ BTW, your are killin' it Mr. Fields.
Comin' out of the gate like gangbusters. Mixed metaphors fail me.

I wish I knew how to describe the vibe of your show Gaylord. But it definitely has one. Can't quite call it mellow. Thoughtful? Regardless, it fits my Sunday moods.
Gonna be a photo finish arrival to the station, Gaylord! I’ve been waiting for the Path for an hour and there are 53 service advisories on their website! I’m trying, DJ time slot neighbor! Stuck at 6th Ave and 14th. Wish me luck. Good thing my cardio is in ok shape.
Game was bonkers Phat. Oh, and you are spot on regarding the show…thoughtful is well put. There is a special cadence to the show that is almost unique.
We’ve seamlessly drifted from basement chamber music to XTC to this.

@Destroit I followed the updates but not the game near the end. I even posted that younger me would be freaking out. Then I thought I'd jinxed em. Lol.

I'm glad WFMU doesn't seem to use brick wall limiting, too. This show would lose its dynamics.
It was crazy to watch the Rams just trying to give them the game. So much pantshitting by rams and it was stunning that Stafford did not have one dribble on his leg.
This show seems like something I could play at work without feeling like a creepy weirdo. I have enjoyed my brief stay and will return again in the near future or through the app. Thank you Gaylord : )
A bit simplified view I know, but… jazz in the ‘70s (and prog for that matter) would have been entirely different with Billy Cobham out of the equation. He really brought this very unique “feel,” as it were.
@phat in lincoln: Regarding your early comment about describing Gaylord's show - How does this sound:
A seamless blend of musical kindred spirits and strangers that you never thought would fit together, combined to make a beautiful musical puzzle.
@Gaylord: I'm glad you like it! There are other qualities too that I couldn't quite articulate but that might suffice as a simplistic nutshell kind of thing.
