Locally, the god of passage underground is Mt'a, the Silver Worm. I am once again propitiating this god and crossing under the river to your insular city of the Manhattoes, girdled round by wharves like Indian isles by coral reefs. Greetings from there!

I catalogued my cassettes last week and noted the evidence of high-school obsessiveness as I timed and recorded the track lengths of dubbed albums for putting songs on mixes!

I have always thought of mixes (specifically tapes) as an important form of correspondence between two people, or from one person to many.

Since getting back into community radio and filling in from time to time the show I am still the proudest of is the one where I played a total of six tracks over the course of a two hour show. Still, there's always something new to say, and room for improvement.

When K8 and I were first together but she hadn't finished grad school and moved here, she came to visit. She was so excited that she left her car unlocked with a bike on the back seat. In pre-gentrified Greenpoint, this was a bad idea. And then whoever took the bike made off with all her cassettes, too! All the HS mixes, everything!
I think I made only one mix CD -- for K8!

Recorded media shelflife can be surprisingly variable. A lot of it depends on the climate they were kept in. High heat & humidity is generally bad for both CD-Rs & tapes alike.

If David will forgive the crass commercialism, the gift I'm sending him is a unique, live-recorded 45 from K8 and Creek and Kills. The recording session with a lathe press is next month, and you can preorder any C&K song (I think they might pare down the list after this week). The band is donating their share of the proceeds to the National Network of Abortion Funds. Info and URL are in my profile. In case anyone's looking for unique (and personalized!) live 45s!
