A real shock around here. Pittsburgh is often called the City of Bridges. Can't really go far without crossing one. Jessie and I just walked the dog in a different park under a very similar bridge today. From the underside, it's a rusted-out mess. Life seems more precarious.

I can't really claim Jerry as a friend. (The owner of the legendary Jerry's Records here in town just died.) But he was almost like a part of the family. Spent hours and hours in his store, which was two blocks from my house. Some buying, some selling, but mostly flicking through endless bins of vinyl. I bet my thumbs traveled a hundred miles in that place. Jerry was a treasure.

Jerry was the owner of the legendary Jerry’s Records, in Pittsburgh. One of the greatest record shops in the U.S. Doug lives very close by. My NY friends and I used to make pilgrimages to his shop. RIP. ❤️

I was on a run, November, early December, boy, that was nice.
Think I may get out again in Feb, John Zorn's New Masada Quartet will be at the Village Vanguard for a Sunday Matinee. Saw them before things got bad again, fabulous show! (I'll get a new, high falutin' mask, sip my drink under it, hold my breath if I have to...)

So sorry to hear about Jerry, Doug and Bob.. Whenever I hear this sad news, I think of my dear friend Michael Carlucci, who owned Subterranean on Cornelia Street.. Michael passed a number of years after closing his shop. But missed the release of a new record he recorded with friends and colleagues from the NJ scene.. Record shops provide us with recorded music, but also with community.. It's a bitter loss when the good ones are no longer present.. Sadly, too much of that in this city.. especially in the last five years or so..
