Thanks all. Busy cleaning up mess. Apparently 2 people in apt. w/fire only partially smoked up, panicked. Several damaged apts. My front door lock broken open by fire dept. Cassettes and CDs scattered all over the stereo room when fire dept. moved furniture. Initial seconds I handed 2 fire extinguishers to panicked guy on fire escape.

...alarms in my trap are well-maintained - I'm lucky I don't trigger the smoke alarm when I destroy dinner. & the building alarm has brought the Fire Dept. more than once in mere minutes here in our smalltown - when somebody takes that the next step or something... I guess I'm grateful.

Thanks mariano, robm, actually glad that relatively no one hurt, just water damaged apts below and my room looks like a tornadio came thru. Relatively on a scale, not bad. Fire dept got here fast. We loaned a mattress to another apt. Etc. Gracias.
