Afternoon to you, james! Hi, Rich! Greetings, drowsy!

Looks like you'll be in my neck of the woods today (not that I don't love the stuff you play that isn't "in my neck of the woods", but this is the musical area I spend my "free time" in.
(I'll stop trying to explain myself now, hi David, Ruth, and Ridgewoodnicks!

Anna Webber is one of my relatively recent discovery (she was on Dave Sewelson's show)-The Webber-Morris Big Band is another great album, and idiom by Webber. Don't have this one, sounds like one to get.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
doctorjazz:

(Jacob Garchik, the trombonist here, also has some good albums out there).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
Webhamster Henry:

That Ashaa track reminded my of the estimable Joe Maneri, whose microtonal aesthetic was honed by playing hundreds of Eastern European/Arabic weddings and other parties.

This Webber piece tickles me in all the right places.

Need to see Webber live.

@Henry: I know musicians who greatly expanded their sound after doing party gigs in Brighton Beach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm

@david You can do your version of Dance With Me Stanley with a selection of those tunes!

WR and djazz, I have vertical dyslexia.
🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:38pm
WR:

web searching this track and did find the bandcamp page, but also lots of medical pages that I chose not to even think about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
doctorjazz:

It IS an interesting name for a track-think it was meant to have a sexual connotation (but most red swellings on the skin would be cutaneous vasodilatation).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
david w:

I'm afraid to even say it out loud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm
doctorjazz:

(I've managed to "break in" my spouse; having this music playing on the living room stereo would send her to another part of the house in the past, but she's just lying here on the couch. Likely she's just gotten good at shutting out the sounds...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
david w:

She may actually like the Melford and Threadgill coming up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
doctorjazz:

In fact, just sweating when it's hot outside is a result of cutaneous vasodilation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
doctorjazz:

(I know I'LL like the Threadgill and Melford coming up...)
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
WR:

David, regarding the Nakatani/Parish/Rowden, what made you decide to play In vs. Ter or Stice?
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
WR:

And silliness, important part of the playlist comments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
doctorjazz:

Love this Melford-quite a band!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
david w:

Hey, WR. I think it was mostly a timing thing
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
WR:

This Melford recording is lovely. Interesting with Roberts and Halvorson. Don't recall if I've heard Kavee before.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
david w:

Coincidentally, Kavee shows up on the Threadgill track, cued up next.
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:20pm
WR:

Ah, among many many other things Kavee is on Threadgill's "In for a Penny, in for a Pound" which I have.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
doctorjazz:

Halvorson not sounding that Halvorson-y here, nice sound, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
doctorjazz:

And Threadgill, great artist/composer/arranger/player!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
david w:

Yes, Halvorson is kind of restrained on that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm

Been following him since the group Air (which I saw...)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm

From when Miles "sold out"... (Never did understand that, nothing 'pop' about his early electric music. Now, you maybe could say that about his later band covering Cindy Lauper-which I liked...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
doctorjazz:

Thanks, David, Ruth, much fun!

late to the party !
🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:58pm
WR:

The only time I saw Miles Davis was when he was doing the Cindy Lauper song. I'll save my observations for another time. I can say I was disappointed.

I haven't listened to Live Evil in decades. This sounds great. Thanks for the treat, David. In fact, thank you and Ruth for another excellent episode of Ridgewood Radio. I've learned about a seminal author (Galeano) along with the music.
