I wore a pair of slip-on Chelsea shoes that Winter and one day walking along Mile End Road, I saw the bus coming, so I legged it and leapt on (it was the old Routemaster type) but due to the snow you couldn't tell where the gutter was and one foot plunged into it, leaving a shoe behind, in the slush. Had to ride one stop and hop back to retrieve it much to the merriement of the bus conductor.

I wore a pair of slip-on Chelsea shoes that Winter and one day walking along Mile End Road, I saw the bus coming, so I legged it and leapt on (it was the old Routemaster type) but due to the snow you couldn't tell where the gutter was and one foot plunged into it, leaving a shoe behind, in the slush. Had to ride one stop and hop back to retrieve it much to the merriement of the bus conductor.
