	10:00am Doug Schulkind: Reading Bushell's memoir, he talks about Coltrane coming to him for help with his embouchure. He couldn't find the right mouthpiece to get the sound he wanted, and Bushell helped him work it out.

He sought a multitude of remedies, but the act of chomping down on a mouthpiece remained an agony for him. Now I share this detail with a little trepidation. I don't remember where I read this, and I can't entirely verify it.

	10:11am Doug Schulkind: Quickly scanning, I just saw this: "[Coltrane had had dental problems that sometimes interfered with his playing. - eds.] During the Miles/Monk years, he suffered from tooth-pain so severe that for some periods he couldn't perform at all and that was one of the reasons for Miles to sack him the first time, drug problems another."

	10:16am Doug Schulkind: I believe that Dolphy knew Garvin Bushell first and studied with him. He recommended him to Coltrane, and Coltrane studied with Bushell for 3-4 weeks. Gluten-free tag, kim krimstein!

He sought a multitude of remedies, but the act of chomping down on a mouthpiece remained an agony for him. Now I share this detail with a little trepidation. I don't remember where I read this, and I can't entirely verify it.

	10:11am Doug Schulkind: Quickly scanning, I just saw this: "[Coltrane had had dental problems that sometimes interfered with his playing. - eds.] During the Miles/Monk years, he suffered from tooth-pain so severe that for some periods he couldn't perform at all and that was one of the reasons for Miles to sack him the first time, drug problems another."
