David, we have a few shows that dip into French territory sometimes, but not on a weekly basis. Apart from DJ Shangri-La, Ursula1000 does French specials occasionally - he visits Paris and brings back stacks o' wax. Otis Fpdder and Cat play a lot of French-language stuff, too, tho it may be more French-Canadian (they live in Montreal).

before nirvana in 1991 hardly anyone knew more than venus though... now they know 2 songs!
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:20pm

"The Banjo Song" by Tim Rose and the Big 3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
coelacanth∅:

really! i mean, i always (and i mean always, even when i was 7-8 years old!) thought it was a very predictable riff. i just thought it was "a standard".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm

i must hear the banjo song!

Jan Turkenburg:

and parts of this sound an awful lot like Friday on my mind :-)
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:29pm
Jan Turkenburg:

just parts of course. I really like this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
coelacanth∅:

i was so into venus when i was little (despite that^!) that i bought the album when i was ...13?
and quickly learned that my favorite shocking blue songs were not venus.
but i still love venus.

maybe Van Leeuwen (sp?) purposely created a predictable simple song to break into the american market -as Ray Davies dummied-down his music in the late 70s
Avatar 1:33pm

'You know I love you baby, please don't go....'

Robbie van Leeuwen's response (well after 2000, when a welknown Dutch pop music journalist found out) was: well, all blues songs sound alike too don't they?

Jan @134 i'm a little disappointed by that...i guess because it's so far from my opinion.
  1:40pm
Listener Robert:

I'm going to guess at the English meaning of "brandweerwagen". The "wagen" part is easy. "Weer" I'm going to guess is like German "wehr". Then "brand" I'm going to take literally as the same. So a "brand war wagon" -- a vehicle which engages in "brand war", i.e. competitive advertising. It must be one of those trucks whose sole purpose is to drag an advertisement down the road or park it in a prominent place. Now I'm going to see how close I came.
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:41pm
Jan Turkenburg:

from mine as well, I remember he was grumpy because actually he was caught red-handed in his old age. It seems he first just hang up the phone, when confronted
Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Listener Robert "weer" means "defence" (in this context) "vuur" means fire and wagen is car/truck/wagon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm

Avatar 🦝 Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Jan Turkenburg:

this conversation is the end of the track. Next track being a Dutch language version of Yesterday, which i previously overlooked, because of the title.
  1:47pm
Listener Robert:

Thanks, JT, but it looks like the "brand" part of the word still had to be accounted for, so I did some research. We do have an archaic word in English, "brand" for the same meaning it apparently has in Dutch, which means our word "firebrand" is redundant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm

why did Jake Holmes let dazed & confused go by?
