Ambient, transient, poppy, sloppy, danceable, romanceable, and Italians rapping in English with laser noises. Don't be sad because here comes the sun.

Mid-morning greetings from Finland. Nice opening track!

Hope it's warmer over there, Don. Chilly willy over here in NJ!

informal poll-for the marathon should my custom icon be a sax or a sunrise?
Avatar 🎷 3:45am
Don in Tampere:

@hyperdose, depends on what qualifies as cold. It's -3 C here at the moment, cooling to -5 in the afternoon. That's actually relatively mild for this time of year, and -5 is the sweet spot for cross-country skiing, so that's what I'll do after I finishing my house cleaning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50am
fred:

@Jeremiah: I feel a sunrise would represent more of the show, but really it depends on which one looks better as an icon (maybe sunrise is harder than a sax in that size)
Avatar 3:53am
Jeremiah:

the sax is funner looking but the sunrise does make sense. although the last half hour of the show is pretty much all sax.
Avatar 🎷 Swag For Life Member 3:54am
_Ike_:

I agree that it really depends on what looks better as an icon. Also, one thing to check on: is the sunrise harder to see against this background?
Avatar 4:03am
HyperDose:

My new digs has a delightful sunrise view. Excited to see how it pairs with the show.
As long as there's minimal wind chill, I'd call that mild as well, Don. Be safe out there. Happy trails!

There’s gonna come a day
when
I’ll be
asleep at this hour

and it’ll be sweet oblivion.

you’ll all continue to be here.

The Violet Eves' singer reminded me of Propaganda, if anyone here is old enough to remember that band

LiXiviated Life:

As a child
on long drives in the evening
no car seat in those days
stretched out in the back seat
windows open
trusting the adults to pilot that Chevy
along that ribbon road through
Seacaucus
Moonachie
Lodi
Etc
I would surrender to sleep
knowing all the serious work
would be done by the vigilant

What is weirder? That Elg gets airplay on the station, or that I immediately identified his sound
  4:45am
LiXiviated Life:

Can some please
open the door for Karl?
Avatar 4:47am
Jeremiah:

@fred-i just play what interests me out of the new stuff we get in and some of my own records. first time hearing Elg.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am
fred:

I guess I now have to vote for the sunrise icon... hearing a familiar voice/sound is still a thrill. I don't think Laurent will make a foray into smooth jazz, though who knows?
Avatar 4:51am
Jeremiah:

qui est laurent?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55am
fred:

Oops, that's Elg. I guess I blew his cover
Avatar 4:56am
Jeremiah:

what is he the banksy of art rock?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00am
fred:

I'm sure he'd love to pull in that kind of money. But no, he's a wildly and widely creative musician.
And now you play CIA Debutante, I used to know one of them (in before times). There are connections there
  5:03am
LiXiviated Life:

Yeah, can I get a large coffee, a bear claw and one of those free form radio things. Can I get that with cheese?
  5:04am
LiXiviated Life:

… and all of that to go ok?
Avatar 5:08am

I should totally go get a berry and cheese danish

There’s a DD near the PATH station no?
Avatar 5:12am
Jeremiah:

yeah there's one at wtc. i just never go in.
  5:13am
LiXiviated Life:

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s far better to smell Dunkin’ Donuts than to eat them.
  5:14am
LiXiviated Life:

There’s a nice French bakery in walking distance of the station.
but at the time you leave they’re probably baking and not selling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16am
fred:

You need to get in touch with Matt Warwick and get him to have donuts delivered. He knows people in the donutverse, let's put it that way
Avatar 5:17am
HyperDose:

There's a QuickChek right by my place, so they have the full gambit of prepared preservative-laden pastries. I like Dunkin's coffee because their coarse grind isn't sludgy.
  5:20am
LiXiviated Life:

I’ve become a weird coffee nerd.
I’ve got expectations now.
Avatar 5:20am

Clay offered me a donut when he arrived Thursday morning. Maybe you'll get lucky and Jim the Poet will do the same!
Avatar 5:22am

this is all good advice
  5:22am

Jim’s not coming in today I think

This font is really good at preventing anyone from going all-caps. I had never thought of that
Avatar 5:29am

Same, Lix. My next purchase may be a coffee machine with a foaming wand. I want iced almond milk cappuccinos in the privacy of my own home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33am

When is the sunrise going to actually happen during this show?
Avatar 5:35am

April some time

  5:37am
morphe':

When Now playing:
"Who's That Lady?" by Peter White from Glow
came on, I thought "oh, that sounds familiar."
Fred: around June or perhaps even late May???
"
If you open your copy of the 2022 Farmers’ Almanac to page 144, you’ll see that in the Northern Hemisphere, the earliest sunrise for the year is June 14th. (at 40° North Latitude*). Actually, the sunrise times are listed at 5:30 a.m. every day from June 11th through the 17th, but it will actually rise a few seconds earlier on the 14th than it does on the 13th or the 15th...."
