Hi chresti!

Franco Twinkie:

Irony, as you can see I'm enthralled by The Old Detective. I had lunch with Brue Litz yesterday at The Lost Parrot, and he comped me a copy. Can I just say WOW! - The voice of Phil Austin, which we all know so well is the voice in my head describing this alternate world L.A. You guys did an amazing job putting this together. In the future, I imagine this book will be taught in classes on the literature of Los Angeles. Bravo!

Rich in Washington:

Mornin', Jan!
Hi everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
ironybread:

Pity Whale were annihilated by this, their first major-label release. I picked it up in the cutout bin in the record store down the street from the Tower on Ventura Blvd. www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
ironybread:

Ah yes, 1998, when there could be not just a Tower Records on Ventura Blvd. but a thriving used record store just down the block (and probably three more as you drive east to Studio City)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Franco Twinkie:

Sorry but true Taylor. The future started two years ago, and brother it's murder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
Zipperhead7:

Same with NYC. I used to hit the Tower at 63rd and Broadway at least once a week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
fred:

That Whale album title pretty accurately describes my dance skills
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm

Thanx jan. Seeing if i can get a magnet to stick to my new artificial knee. What kinda sexay car is that on the Limbo cover? A Matra?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm

1997-98 was when I got into trip hop.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm

Thanks WR. My natural state of being - reading across the range.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
fred:

@Franco: looks like we share the pile as our main book storage system
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm
Franco Twinkie:

Piles of books will be the death of me, Fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm
chresti:

'98-'99 was the first time we went to a live trippy hoppity show and watched two guys sitting at their laptops onstage, sounded great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
Jan Turkenburg:

lol, chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm
_Ike_:

Franco, I hope I become a handsome gentleman like you when I grow up! Though perhaps that’s only good if one likes the WFMU look. I do! (IDK exactly what “the WFMU look” is, but I know you’re it!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm

Oww :-) hi _Ike_!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm

And it's not like there aren't any bookcases and shelves and drawers for storage, (which are half empty and blocked by all the stacks of books, zines, records...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Jan Turkenburg:

owww? I'm not the only one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Jan Turkenburg:

and thank The Heavens Above for Google translate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
fred:

@chresti: bookcases and shelves look better and allow better access, but piles are more efficient space-wise
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm
chresti:

Franco and his dad built them before we moved in. fred, not these piles, it looks like an earthquake emptied the contents of the shelves onto the floor and furniture, there's a narrow path to the door and window ac.

fred:

@chresti: Some interior design changes loom in my future: another "poorer neighborhood improvement program", aka "coat of paint" will probably bring some piles down. I'll have to split them, maybe shouldn't wait. At least the earthquake excuse is plausible in your case

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
fred:

@chresti: also, your home is earthquake resilient; as long as the walls hold, it won't be disturbed much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
ironybread:

Remember with me now that time you bought Purple Rain and looked at the lyrics on the sleeve and thought "wait, when did they sing all those lyrics from Computer Blue"? Then maybe had to wait a couple decades until a bootleg of the Hallway Version started circulating to find out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
chresti:

@fred, seems to be, built in 1906 as a 2 room shotgun shack, an addition was added later for the kitchen and bathroom/laundry room

Hiya Cp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Zipperhead7:

When Prince put out Diamonds and Pearls he was doing some press so my publisher and I got flown up to Paisley Park. We toured the place (his trophy room was strewn with rose petals; all it needed was a leopard cub slinking around) and then got to see him do a rehearsal on the soundstage at full concert volume. He was wearing a doo rag. At the end his bandmates high fived each other and he came down and shook our hands. He hadn't even broke a sweat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
fred:

I remember ducking under bed covers with a radio to listen to tracks from this album. I'm that old

funny fred, i remember listening to the one with rasberry beret on it under my grandparents folding card table, and scribbling random things with marker on the underside
