	♥ 5:28pm Franco Twinkie: Gaylord, Many years ago I was going to visit friends in NYC. I asked them what they wanted from L.A. MEXICAN FOOD was the reply. I decided I would make them chile rellanos. I packed my suitcase with ancho chiles and the right kind of dry beans. I figured I could get everything else there - WRONG! I decided to scour Lower Manhattan for ingredients. For a big weather wussy like me, that was difficult in the snow. I found this Mexican market on 14th Street. I'll just say this - my heart sank.
	♥ 5:29pm HyperDose: Thank you, Gaylord. Will do! Very keen to try La Brujeria and to see how Salerno Salumeria Deli compares to Benanti's here in Bayonne. My dad told me the place next to WFMU makes a great sandwich. I'll surely be bringing those home after volunteering for marathon.

	♥ 5:35pm Franco Twinkie: I've eaten enough creative interpretations of Mexican food that I just decided it's better to just eat the local fair when not at home.
	♥ 5:36pm Gaylord Fields: Hence my asking someone to smuggle a Mission burrito in her hand luggage back in the '90s!
	5:38pm LadyChanticleer: There are plenty of Central American spots in NYC. Went to a Salvadoran spot last time I was in there that was populated by only Afro-Salvadorans. Had all these 3D photos of the beach on the walls.
	♥ 5:40pm Franco Twinkie: One time I was hanging with a former neighbor on the LES. He took me to this place called El Sombrero or something like that. Half way through the meal I just put my fork down and stared at him. He just sheepishly shrugged.

I vowed next time I saw him it would be time for him to go back to school. Unfortunately he died and it never came to pass.

	🥁 ♥ 5:47pm prguitar: Much to the lament of my transplanted SF friends, NYC Mexican food was like talking apples and oranges compared to CA. Was that ever the truth on every level! It's been a long while since I lived in the Bay Area, but a friend I was working with would take me to a Mexican place in a strip mall outside of Oakland.. Unfortunately I don't recall the name.. Easy enough to find out..

To me, Mexican food IS medicine.

	♥ 5:28pm Franco Twinkie: Gaylord, Many years ago I was going to visit friends in NYC. I asked them what they wanted from L.A. MEXICAN FOOD was the reply. I decided I would make them chile rellanos. I packed my suitcase with ancho chiles and the right kind of dry beans. I figured I could get everything else there - WRONG! I decided to scour Lower Manhattan for ingredients. For a big weather wussy like me, that was difficult in the snow. I found this Mexican market on 14th Street. I'll just say this - my heart sank.

It's been a long while since I lived in the Bay Area, but a friend I was working with would take me to a Mexican place in a strip mall outside of Oakland.. Unfortunately I don't recall the name.. Easy enough to find out..
