Handy Haversack:

I've been reading that Love, Death, and Photosynthesis book that I think Nate mentioned during his fill-in? And Creamo mentioned? At any rate, music and death have been imbricate in my head all week because of it and Joe B's tribute show yesterday.

Is that what it was? I saw a semi-updated article that said he was a covid/vax denier but had a sudden change of opinion.
Avatar 3:18pm
Creamo Coyl:

I haven't read that book but a lot of it is about Jerry Wick from Gaunt who I fucking loved.
Speaking of the death of great musicians, he died stupidly and tragically and I went to a memorial service for him in Cleveland. To see somebody be that electrifying on stage and then see them lying there in stasis is a special kind of heartbreak.
RIP all the rockers and the rollers.

You may well be correct, RR1163. Variety said he'd been battling covid and kidney disease, although no official word from his family.

I mean, Jerry Wick's memorial service in Cleveland (or Parma?) is in the book, not sure if there was more than one.

You should check out the book, Creamo. This very afternoon I was reading a passage about how much write-ups in zines meant to Jerry Wick and how he treasured that kind of reinforcement. Lots of pain and sadness in the book. Lots of music.
Avatar 3:26pm
Creamo Coyl:

Oh wow.
Well, I left the originals of the pages of Gaunt stuff in my zines at the service for his parents. They gave me like tapes of records that didn't come out for another year and hung out with me when I would go see them play.
Hugely important band to Lil' Creamo.

I remember reading an article in Spin in summer 1992. It was an article on Soundgarden and Big Day Out... and I will always remember the story about Chris Cornell at Matt Cameron running into Billy Corgan, who was sad and despondent. And they asked him if he was alright, and what is wrong. Billy whined that "_I_ want to be the cute one in my band..." They laughed in his face and walked away.

@Handy Haversack: nay, but I had some pretty good grub the short time I was there. I also got to the Turrell installation and Rothko Chapel. The latter didn't really excite me, but it was on my list a good long while.

I was at a party in the summer of 2000. THere's was an emo kid there who seemed to be intentionally emoey in the moment. I sat down next to him and said "Hey buddy. It's gonna be OK. Can I give you a hug?" THen he smiled and busted out laughing.

better that, tim, than triggering a pervie alert in the kid :p
Avatar 4:29pm
Niall:

ChukAmok: That was my first Turrell experience, and I'm glad I got to see what the fuss was about. Like the Rothko Chapel, it rewards stillness and attention. Neither of those were particularly contemplative places, but I suppose if you're lucky enough to get there with few people around, the effect really sinks in.
