A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

So, my Marathon system:
1. Set a TOTAL BUDGET you want to give. For easy math, let’s make it $610
2. Choose the shows you want to support, and set aside a fixed amount ($10 or more- I do $20-$25, some extra for a few others I love) for each show so you can get a badge and get in on the giveaways (usually $20-$25 to enter).
Let’s say you choose 10 shows @ $25- that’s $250 for shows.
3. Subtract the show gifts ($250) from your total budget ($610) = $360 for Swag For Life, divided by 12 months = $30 a month (ish)
4. Sign up for Swag For Life at $30 a month, don’t dedicate it to any shows, choose your swag.
5. During the shows you want to support, donate bring a giveaway or just whenever and support the show! Get a chat badge.
6. Feel amazing as a supportive member of a community supporting non-profit freeform radio!
❤️

Missed you TroubleMakers last week. But had a great opportunity two weeks ago to finally get away for a short vacation. Exactly a fortnight ago was shoveling snow off of a frozen lake in Vermont so the kids could delight in having a little sledding rink. Over three days of good friends and our small families together, we stoked up a fire pit, cooked, sipped mezcal, played musical instruments, sledded, only turned on a screen to watch Get Back (which I hadn’t seen b/c I refuse to pay the cult of Disney- how TF did *they* get this all-important historical artifact), and were at peace with wondrous nature and the warmth of the hearth.
And I wondered why life couldn’t be more like this, the majority of time spent *this* way, the way life was intended in something such as the “folk society” that Vonnegut talked about. Rather than this odious, merciless, ever-churning grinder of the consumer-capitalist treadmill. In which we cram in free time during something called “the weekend,” or on those infrequent (and if they’re deemed to be too many days away from the office and being in contact with work colleagues frowned upon and discouraged) reprieves from the work world called “vacation,” though they hardly ever quite land as the refreshment needed.
Anyway, I’ve arrived at acting upon my gratitude for WFMU, initially and foremost through Trouble’s show, with a donation today. This show is a salve to my soul in an increasingly f’d up world; grazie molto, Trouble (and The Troubled)! But alas, I just remembered that I’m still waiting for one of those plastic bank cards we all have these days, which was in my possession until a few days ago when it wasn’t. I’m awaiting a new one (and feel strangely liberated without).
Damn. Wanted also to chat briefly with John Brown comrade, morphe!
I’ll be back next week with bank card in hand to give some dough to this great place.
For now I’m going for an overdue, brisk walk, taking Trouble along on the portable Bose speaker.

But who knows maybe we have met…were you at Occupy Wall St much? Met so many incredibly brilliant and compassionate folks who I never saw again.
I gotta make these baked tofu triangles now that the kids (and we parents) love for lunch tomorrow before I go out.
Anarchism is the most natural, fundamental pillar of organizing society. One of the most misunderstand and propagandized term in this country. Mutual Aid is our default setting as humans. Go Trouble. With love from Astoria, Queens.

Would be cool to ruminate in person on such and related things. It’s too cold and alienating in this modern hyper-capitalism death March, to not convene such kindred spirits in person!
