Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hi Bronwyn and Broadway babies!
Avatar 🎭 7:14pm Listener Gregory:

Should I feel embarrassed at never having heard of this show (Kean)? The title is not that engaging.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Webhamster Henry:

One Cyrano down, now all we need is a Hunchback.
🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:15pm Tamar:

Hi Henry, diciassette, and Gregory! The show is rolling, and we are seeking a-pledging.
🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Tamar:

I hadn't heard of Kean either. You learn something every week on Acid Jazz Hands!
  7:18pm Listener Gregory:

Actually, with the archive, we CAN get show tunes on demand. Thank you FMU!

A simply PERFECT Friday evening radio program. Hooray for Bronwyn and Acid Jazz Hands!
Avatar 🎭 7:28pm Listener Gregory:

I guess you could have a complete flop with even a really strong cast. It must be very sad for them.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Webhamster Henry:

Not Since Carrie, pp 136-138 for those who want to read along.
🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Tamar:

"Cheswav Neeman"
Avatar 🎭 7:40pm Listener Gregory:

Eubie Blake wrote some of the biggest hits of the century and then was forgotten for decades until his "rediscovery." I heard him in concert then (as a college student), and I have never seen a performer more grateful to have an audience. He was ~90 and was tickling the ivories something fierce.
🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Tamar:

Cool that you got to see Eubie Blake in his comeback, Gregory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Bronwyn Bishop:

The coolest
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Webhamster Henry:

Eubie popped up after many years of whitewashed ragtime, thanks to "The Sting", and demonstrated what authentic ragtime sounded like!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Bronwyn Bishop:

*shakes fist at Marvin Hamlisch*
  8:07pm dicassette:

🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Tamar:

🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Tamar:

Listener Gregory, can we come to the after party?
Avatar 🎭 8:20pm Listener Gregory:

May I make a 1-hour tardy comment? Thanks!
Julius La Rosa, who sang in A Broadway Musical is better known as a radio DJ on WNEW in New York, with his show the Make-Believe Ballroom, mostly playing showtunes and pop hits of the 40s and 50s (if my memory is correct). Radio DJ makes good! And performs in a one-night flop!
Avatar 🎭 8:20pm Listener Gregory:

Tamar, all who have contributed to WFMU are welcome at the party. But BYOB.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Wow Gregory that's so cool, I had no idea!!

🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Tamar:

OK, then, Ordell Robbie, hello!
Avatar 🎭 8:42pm Listener Gregory:

We're sending Orwell down the memory shute. "We have always been named Ordell! Fix the records!"
  8:48pm Ordell Robbie:

Howdy all. I just listened to this for this show for the first time and I like it.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:50pm doctorjazz:

  8:50pm Ordell Robbie:

Is this song called “Ode to Mediocrity”?
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:53pm diciassette:

Hail hail tout le monde est ici !
  8:54pm Ordell Robbie:

I am stealing whatever this song was for the finale for my show this Friday. That was great.
Avatar 🎭 8:56pm Listener Gregory:

Calvin Trillin tells how he was offered the job to write weekly poems for The Nation for a fee described by the editor as "in the high two figures." I was going to say that this is the same as our remaining goal, but there's actually even less left to go. It's doable!!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm doctorjazz:

Liked Tic Tic BOOM!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm diciassette:

Put on another song, quick! Penalty minutes!
Avatar 🎭 9:01pm Listener Gregory:

Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 9:02pm diciassette:

Thank you Bronwyn, thank you Tamar.
