Happy Hump Day, ya'll! I really have to get some boring work done, so might not be in the chat much today, but my desk-top speakers will be rockin'.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm

The band has less members now and has continued as "Knars", without the brass section and female singer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm

Listener Robert:

The literal meaning of kapsalon is obvious. How did the food get that meaning?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm
Jan Turkenburg:

there is little consensus on that point. Probably a snackbar owner in Rotterdam (or perhaps Amsterdam, some claim) came up with it and it got popular fast.
  1:39pm
Listener Robert:

I see Wikipedia says it was a dish ordered by a particular worker at a hair salon, and came to be known as such by other patrons at the restaurant that furnished it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Jan Turkenburg:

that's one of the stories....
Avatar 1:39pm
worldsworstrecords:

This sounds like something i would play!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Jan Turkenburg:

The only thing I can reveal is that this little boy now is a bigband pianist ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
Jan Turkenburg:

His wife just asked on messenger if they are getting any royalties from this broadcast :-) :-)
Avatar 1:46pm
worldsworstrecords:

haha! fabulous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
Wenzo Toad:

did you tell her if they put in an appearance on the comments board we will treat them LIKE royalty?
  1:47pm
Listener Robert:

It would seem that the principals in the kapsalon story, it being so recent, would still be around, by which to check its authenticity. You would have witnesses who were the first who knew it as the order from the hair salon, and it would seem to be easy to dispose of other claims. Maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Wenzo Toad:

perhaps the true originator prefers to remain anonymous... like the batman of streetfood...
Avatar 1:52pm
worldsworstrecords:

It's a kebab and chips without the pita bread... pretty bog-standard fare here in the UK since the 1980s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm
Jan Turkenburg:

yes, but the salad and the grilled cheese (I always order WTHOUT cheese!) make it a kapsalon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
Jan Turkenburg:

btw I think I will have one after this show :-) Didn't have time to prepare dinner and I'm without cooker for two weeks
Avatar 1:55pm
worldsworstrecords:

Kebabs come with salad... it's only the cheese that's different, and if you're not having the cheese, well!!
Avatar 1:55pm
worldsworstrecords:

hahahahahaha!
  1:56pm
Listener Robert:

It would seem a tory like that MUST be true, inasmuch as nothing about the food or its preparation resembles dressing people's hair.
Avatar 1:56pm
David in California:

Thank you, Jan. I enjoyed the show.
Avatar 1:56pm
worldsworstrecords:

Cracking show, Jan... with or without a slice of Gouda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
