A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Bauhaus  Drink The New Wine   Favoriting Drink The New Wine (single)  Bauhaus Music  2022  New single released 3/23/22.
"Drink The New Wine" was recorded last year during lockdown with the four members sharing audio files. The track employs the Surrealists' 'Exquisite Corpse' device whereby each artist adds to the piece without seeing what the others have done. Bauhaus have used this technique in the past to great effect. For the recording, the four musicians each had one minute and eight tracks at their disposal plus a shared sixty seconds plus four tracks for a composite at the end. All done without hearing what the others had laid down. The only common link being a prerecorded beat courtesy of Kevin. The final playback came as synchronistic revelation.

I don't recognize any of those Savage Republic members, hmm. But I was a big fan of those boys, saw 'em open for Wall of Voodoo back in the day, so I'll check it out. Thanks for all these tips!

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Pistols series. Looking forward to John Lydon's reactions to it even more.

In Lydon's defense, it does look like a shit show. Will still watch it, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm
ultradamno:

I mean a show from the perspective of the Ringo of the Sex Pistols is at least amusing in concept. I think HBO's Vinyl will be vindicated somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm
ultradamno:

...or is it the George, I get them mixed up. That I grew up with a kid named Paul Jones never helped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
Rich in Washington:

I think the whole Pistols story IS fascinating, and definitely worthy of a TV show or feature film, but it just looks so cheesy. Also, any guitar nerd worth their finger grime knows Jones played through Fender Twins and not a Marshall stack.
Avatar 9:58pm
Mr Fab:

since Steve Jones played both bass and guitar on "Never Mind" guess that makes him the Paul AND George.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
Zipperhead7:

I'd vote for George, though I can't see Steve Jones swooning for Swami Prabhupada
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm
ultradamno:

Well, some of Never Mind (the stuff that wasn't Matlock from the singles)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
Rich in Washington:

anybody see the fairly recentish show where the surviving Pistols toured all their old stomping grounds (singularly, of course)? Lydon did a guided tour from an open double decker bus. They even had Glenn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm
ultradamno:

I think Eater would make an interesting mini-series. Didn't they have a 15 year old drummer? What's his story? Mad Society is another one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm
ultradamno:

I did see the You Tube of Lydon walking through a museum exhibit of Sex Pistols graphics...what he liked and didn't was wildly predictable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm
Rich in Washington:

This one would cut away to Jones walking around London, then Matlock, Cook, etc, with Lydon on a bus, yelling at yuppies, ranting about gentrification, etc.
Nice to see the other three occasionally hanging out with one another, being very friendly. Been years. Can't recall exactly, but worth watching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
ultradamno:

The kid in Mad Society was 11
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm
Rich in Washington:

Lydon's contrarianism IS predictable, as you say. For that, I almost forgive his dumb pro-trump statements. It was sort of inevitable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Rich in Washington:

His dedication to caring for his wife in her sad decline has sort of elevated him as a person in my eyes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
ultradamno:

It would be less annoying if he didn't tie it to some kind of working class populism. Trump hates "the people" more than any elitist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Rich in Washington:

but he's like your asshole uncle: you know he's got to say something characteristically difficult and curmudgeonly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm
Zipperhead7:

The Fllthy Lucre tour was a hard-rocking show. Lydon had the Olivier/Richard III moves down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm
Rich in Washington:

Lydon believed everything that dumb intellectual critics wrote about him, like Greil Marcus.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
Zipperhead7:

Jeez . . . Greil Marcus. He's made some astute observations over the years, but he's the king of self-importance. Read "Presliad" and try not to laugh. Christgau's just as annoying, like the smart kid in class who lets you know it constantly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm

Who would have thought Lydon would be the less canceled party on the Time Zone record at this point? That's got to sting.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was wondering if "mapping personal narrative onto the text" was common. Hopefully not. This Pharoah Sanders is wicked. I thought he was gonna melt his tenor! Ahh . . . here comes Sonny!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
