first band, jerk unicorn, played three little folk-punk ditties (12-string acoustic through a fuzz pedal + 2 drummers), and then the bar owner stumbled to the stage, mumbling to the room, reached up and pulled a switch, killing power to the stage. He then told Jerk Unicorn, "Your music makes me want to kill myself." The Jerk Unicorn frontman was very polite and apologized. Bar owner then flopped down on a nasty couch about 15 feet from the front of the stage and played "happy hands" with some random middle-age woman (who we learned later was NOT his wife, because Wifey was divorcing the guy and suing for ownership of the bar). Oh my virgin eyes! Fortunately, they left, we played our set and then drove up to Hammond for the night (we were playing Memphis the next night). When we got to the motel, FB was blowing up, asking what had happened to Jerk Unicorn at the BSB. The winning theory was they got booted for "jerking a unicorn" (whatever that might mean)! So, I wrote a song about it called, "Jerking a Unicorn." I won't post a link, but I'm gonna bet it's the only song by that title on bandcamp. :)

lol, I just looked at the WFMU playlist search also to see if I could place it. Didn't ring any bells, though.

I was rooting for Joanna Quinn's "Affairs of the Art" to win for Best Animated Short. It was the fourth in the "Beryl" series that she started in 1987.

I was just listening to the Summer of Soul soundtrack last week. I got it from the library. My only complaint is that it needs to be a triple album! the high energy 'Everyday People' is worth the price alone.

I love how david ruffin says, we're going to go back to the olden days - to 4 years ago!

So bizarre. I was up late and night and one of the last things I did was watch a video with Taylor Hawkins and Grohl talking about this crazy road trip they took to go to a strip club owned by Pantera. Then I wake up the next morning to the bad news...

My wife is from New Orleans (hence the Euclid Records shirt), but she's not a going-out-to-clubs person anymore, so I rarely see live music when I'm there.

@Joe - hahaha! I caught that too.

Going to try to get to the Eyelids show tomorrow night in Phila, if everything goes well. Might have to miss the opener. No excuse to miss, since its 15 minutes walk from the house.

Foo Fighters is not my bag at all and I think Dave Grohl is the modern day Phil Collins (sorry Sheila) but it's too bad Taylor Hawkins died unexpectedly. It seems like folks in Foo Fighters are genuinely nice people. I can only imagine what they're going through.

@clarke I'll try! I have a bad memory for where people are from, though. We usually go in the summer. Not sure yet if we'll be going this year. I hate the heat, but my wife is a teacher, so we're stuck with New Orleans in the summer.
