Nowadays, tickets for the Stones are upwards of $1000 each, not including tax and I know it's not inflation related. Completely ridiculous.

I talked to a TM person once for a story trying to dig into the concert industry, and off the record she told me that all the extras - artist fees, venue fees, ticket fees - were ways to kick more money to the artist and the promoter. Promoters also have a scheme in concert contracts to take a percentage of the sales of soft goods at shows, which is why T-shirts are $50.
	10:04am Handy Haversack: When I was a kid, I'd roll down hills that later turned out to have poison ivy all over them, and I'd never react. I have developed such an acute allergy that last year I got poison ivy from K8's clothes after she did a photo shoot by the creek! The year before, I did an afternoon of weed clearing and ended up with poison ivy for a year. It's insane.

	10:21am GorillaSnax: @Damo59 - Regarding extra fees in the ticketing industries, it's 100% true. First-hand knowledge and, a hilarious anecdote about that phase of my life... I spent a week on a glacier learning some alpining skills, sharing a tent with a stranger. Night three, huddled in our opposite-of-spacious tent, we finally worked out that he, at the DOJ, was working on the investigation of the company I had just departed, burned out and dejected as world tours abide by no time zone. Made for interesting pillow talk. On a positive note - some artists/acts will not participate in the fees trick. AC/DC was one of those acts. Tom Petty, another. The merch tables for the really big shows were/are usually part of the 360 deal that simplified a lot of huge tour accounting. The act gets paid $X to do what the the promoter says for a set amount of time. So, for $70 million, you go do this for such an amount of time and I will handle/reap all of the merch, tickets, etc. from all of the markets. It's how smaller promoters got squeezed out of the big tour game. Think Clear Channel but in not radio, live music.

I talked to a TM person once for a story trying to dig into the concert industry, and off the record she told me that all the extras - artist fees, venue fees, ticket fees - were ways to kick more money to the artist and the promoter. Promoters also have a scheme in concert contracts to take a percentage of the sales of soft goods at shows, which is why T-shirts are $50.
	10:04am Handy Haversack: When I was a kid, I'd roll down hills that later turned out to have poison ivy all over them, and I'd never react. I have developed such an acute allergy that last year I got poison ivy from K8's clothes after she did a photo shoot by the creek! The year before, I did an afternoon of weed clearing and ended up with poison ivy for a year. It's insane.

I spent a week on a glacier learning some alpining skills, sharing a tent with a stranger. Night three, huddled in our opposite-of-spacious tent, we finally worked out that he, at the DOJ, was working on the investigation of the company I had just departed, burned out and dejected as world tours abide by no time zone. Made for interesting pillow talk. On a positive note - some artists/acts will not participate in the fees trick. AC/DC was one of those acts. Tom Petty, another. The merch tables for the really big shows were/are usually part of the 360 deal that simplified a lot of huge tour accounting. The act gets paid $X to do what the the promoter says for a set amount of time. So, for $70 million, you go do this for such an amount of time and I will handle/reap all of the merch, tickets, etc. from all of the markets. It's how smaller promoters got squeezed out of the big tour game. Think Clear Channel but in not radio, live music.
