They provide WiFi, a speaker on which to make calls, a screen displaying weather information, and sockets to charge electronic devices. You can assume that the local authorities who installed them there see them as glossy and futuristic, a way of painting over the cracks in society that were symbolised by the dilapidated phone boxes that once stood in their place. Around the hotspots, however, have grown little micro-communities making use of the services, populated by the eccentric outsiders that local authorities are so keen to sweep under the rug. Recording for it began at the château in June 1976 and continued into July. Further sessions took place at Musicland Studios in Munich in August. Bowie composed most of the music and contributed a major portion of the instrumentation. Pop wrote most of the lyrics in response to the music Bowie was creating. The album's title was taken from Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel of the same name, while Erich Heckel's painting Roquairol inspired its artwork. Ludus	I Can't Swim I Have Nightmares	The Visit/Seduction	LTM Recordings	1982	The band was founded in Manchester in 1978 by Linder Sterling, who in the arts and music scene is credited as Linder, having designed the cover of Buzzcocks' single "Orgasm Addict" and Magazine's debut album Real Life; and Arthur Kadmon, formerly of Manicured Noise. Shortly after the formation, ex-Nosebleeds drummer Philip "Toby" Tomanov and bassist Willie Trotter joined to complete the band. It debuted live at the Factory Club, supporting The Pop Group, in October 1978, recording a studio demo the same month. Crass	Health Surface "Health Surface" by "Crass"	Penis Envy	Crass Records	1981	Sung by Joy De Vivre. "The album's name is a nod to some of Freud's ideas concerning sexuality. This album marked a departure from the "macho, hardcore" sounds heard on previous Crass albums, featuring more complex musical arrangements, and exclusively female vocals (those of Joy De Vivre and Eve Libertine). The album addressed issues of feminism and attacked institutions of "the system" such as marriage and sexual oppression. The album was banned by the retailer HMV, and The Greater Manchester Police seized copies of it, along with other Crass albums and Dead Kennedys material, from Eastern Bloc record shop. Its owner, Frank Schofield, was charged with "Displaying obscene articles for publication for gain". As well as this, the band Flux Of Pink Indians, Crass' labels, and their publishing company were all charged on the grounds of the Obscene Publications Act. "Matt Elliott's work as the Third Eye Foundation melds layers of droning noise with clattering drums and harrowing samples, resulting in disturbing yet captivating reflections of a life plagued by fear and hopelessness. Elliott originated from Bristol, England, and his work has combined influences from the city's space rock, drum'n'bass, and trip-hop scenes. He'll often combine supremely fast, chopped-to-smithereens breaks with other drums or samples that are heavily slowed down or stretched out, producing an extremely disorienting effect. Following a burst of activity resulting in several acclaimed albums, singles, and remixes from 1996 to the beginning of the 21st century, Elliott put the Foundation on hold and focused on writing downcast, experimental folk-influenced songs under his own name, but he's revived the project on occasion." Hierophants	Shoemaker Levy 9 "Shoemaker Levy 9" by "Hierophants"	Spitting Out Moonlight	Anti Fade Records	2019	Hierophants, not to be confused with the non-plural Italian metal band Hierophant, is made up of members from Ausmuteants, Alien Nosejob, School Damage, Parsnip, Orb and Traffik Island. A few bigwigs in one band. They play jittery, nervous post-punk/new wave-inspired indie rock. Their simple, catchy songs feature buzzing organ and a thin layer of echo, along with lyrics expressing stress and frustration.
Midnight Sister	Sirens "Sirens" by "Midnight Sister"	Painting The Roses	Jajaguwar	2020	Inside the velvet-lined world of Midnight Sister, Juliana Giraffe and Ari Balouzian party like it’s 1972. The Los Angeles nu-disco duo make lush, seductive glam rock informed by their respective fields: Lead vocalist Giraffe is a filmmaker and visual artist, and composer Balouzian writes movie scores. Their visually rich approach draws on a pile of colorful references, among them vaudeville, glitter rock, and Lynchian melodrama.

Pluperfect Mind also chronicles aspects of Izzy’s own transgender experience, from the painful tedium of waiting for hormone treatment to the elation of finally inhabiting a body that feels right. It captures the sense of being cast adrift between an uncomfortable past and an uncertain future, living outside of heteronormativity and caught in “queer time”. Izzy’s mercurial songwriting aims to suspend the perception of time, allowing the listener to inhabit an immersive half-lit world of mystical landscapes, volatile atmospheres and shifting rhythms.
MGMT	Flash Delirium "Flash Delirium" by "MGMT"	Congratulations	Sony	2010	We find it shocking that a search shows this has never been played on WFMU. Misunderstood by critics and fans expecting a very different album, Congratulations stands as a masterpiece of modern psych, one that predates...and perhaps inspires the last wave of psych revival. This album is perfect, this song is fucking epic.

The album's title was taken from Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel of the same name, while Erich Heckel's painting Roquairol inspired its artwork. Shortly after the formation, ex-Nosebleeds drummer Philip "Toby" Tomanov and bassist Willie Trotter joined to complete the band. Crass	Health Surface "Health Surface" by "Crass"	Penis Envy	Crass Records	1981	Sung by Joy De Vivre. "The album's name is a nod to some of Freud's ideas concerning sexuality. This album marked a departure from the "macho, hardcore" sounds heard on previous Crass albums, featuring more complex musical arrangements, and exclusively female vocals (those of Joy De Vivre and Eve Libertine). The album addressed issues of feminism and attacked institutions of "the system" such as marriage and sexual oppression. The album was banned by the retailer HMV, and The Greater Manchester Police seized copies of it, along with other Crass albums and Dead Kennedys material, from Eastern Bloc record shop. Its owner, Frank Schofield, was charged with "Displaying obscene articles for publication for gain". As well as this, the band Flux Of Pink Indians, Crass' labels, and their publishing company were all charged on the grounds of the Obscene Publications Act. Elliott originated from Bristol, England, and his work has combined influences from the city's space rock, drum'n'bass, and trip-hop scenes.
