All the best people do, Ike!

Also... wow, this Jonathan Kane / WFMU gig was a LOOOOOONG time ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
Doug Schulkind:

I remember being at the station when Jonathan Kane played live on WFMU with Jac Berrocal and Jean-François Pauvros. That was April 7, 1992.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
Charlie:

Southpaw, sigh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
Mike Lupica:

Yowza, Doug! And yeah, Charlie -- I feel the same way. That was a really nice space and run by good folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
fred:

Does anyone remember a premium CD called "The hotwire mandate?". Still one of my fave ever, and there's competition
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Doug Schulkind:

Live on Tony Coulter's show. A track from that live performance made it onto WFMU's first-ever compilation of live guests: They Came, They Played, They Blocked the Driveway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
Mike Lupica:

Haha, Fred! Yep, I think I do remember something about that. Sadly, I can't drink coffee like I used to anymore...
  3:12pm
kimsorise:

Hey hey, Mike and all!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
Mike Lupica:

Yo Kim! Most excellent to see you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
fred:

@Doug: April 7, 1992 was the last day I was 20
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Doug Schulkind:

Well then, fred, we should all be wishing you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
Charlie:

Heading out, driving up to 'Tudecson. Will plug ya in in the car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm

chresti:

Hi Mike and spronk party!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
listener james from westwood:

Lovely Lady Wray!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
fred:

@Mike: I basically gave up coffee during the lockdown. I miss it
@Doug: I usually ignore my birthday, but this one was the worst: stuck home waiting for power to be restored, while a whisky bottle sent by my brother got lost in transit (still waiting for it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Mike Lupica:

Hello Chresti! Thanks for swinging through!
  3:23pm
kimsorise:

I too also enjoyed that lady ray - had a little Badu vibe @james
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
chresti:

I will never give up coffee.
  3:29pm
kimsorise:

I have started to do some mushroom based “coffee” replacement @chresti. I have found 1 brand that actually tastes good and there is caffeine - but less.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
fred:

@chresti: Well, by giving up I mean none after 10am, and going from 20+ a day to maybe 4. So nothing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
doctorjazz:

Happy Belated, Fred.
I gave up coffee/caffeine for months-missed it, went back, but trying to keep amount under control (would guzzle some caffeine beverage any chance I could)
  3:33pm
kimsorise:

I have missed you, Mike. You fast talking New Jerseyan!
  3:35pm
kimsorise:

Very envious about the Juana gig! She is amazing amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Spronk party, yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Mike Lupica:

Back at ya, Kim! And yes -- Juana is the greatest. Can't wait!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
fred:

@doc: I was drinking way too much at a point, and made a deal with myself to buy a record if I kept off the bottle. It worked, but feels like trading addictions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Mike Lupica:

Yo Ken! Long time, nice to see ya here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Mike Lupica:

If I still drank as much coffee as I did 20 years ago, I bet I wouldn't have forgotten Jeff Buckley's name in the last mic break...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
doctorjazz:

Same, @Fred, down to 1-2 travel mugs a day.
Now to shop for some A & B gefilte fish for next week...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Mike Lupica:

Also, Kim: I never talk faster than I can drive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
doctorjazz:

Though I don't think substituting records for coffee will work on and...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
doctorjazz:

*on my end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Franco Twinkie:

Tell it Billy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Mike Lupica:

Billy is RAD. A worthy follow on Twitter, too. Love the fact that after she wrapped up her tour with Sleaford Mods, she just started working in a local record store and would post about daily musical discoveries made while working.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
fred:

@doc: your case is complicated, as your wife is torn between bringing down your coffee and record intake. Which one should come down first?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm
Franco Twinkie:

My introduction to Billy. But what I could suss was a deep anger with the status que, a sense of persecution about the unfairness of life...the usual punk tropes. However, the way she compresses the story is what caught my ear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm
Mike Lupica:

Quite astute! Totally agree!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
fred:

@Franco: A pile of books collapsed yesterday, so now there are two. Any advice on how high a pile can get before intervention is in order? chresti implied you know a lot about the "pile" book storage system
  4:03pm
Charles:

I'm enjoying the ride Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Mike Lupica:

Glad to hear it, Charles! I personally think this Motrik track is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Mike Lupica:

Especially this part, where you KNOW you're being set up for a big explosion of sound....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
Irene Trudel:

Juana Molina is playing solo at Le Poisson Rouge April 21st. Sadly, I'm working that evening. 😿 Mike, I'm loving this set, especially the MØTRIK track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
fred:

Hofesh Shechter is great at that (contemporary dance choregrapher, and drummer)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
Irene Trudel:

I will be in this spot next week, BTW, filling in for Dave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
fred:

My comment was a reply to Mike @4:05, not Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
Irene Trudel:

No worries, fred. I'm a little out of time sync myself. (Happy Birthday, BTW!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Mike Lupica:

Yes, happy birthday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Irene Trudel:

I'm going to have to drift back to concentrating at work, so I wanted to say I've been really enjoying the show today Mike! Until next time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Mike Lupica:

@Irene, my wife and I are going to that Juana show! Sorry we will miss you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm
Mike Lupica:

Thanks Irene! Hope to see you soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
fred:

@Mike and Irene: So I gather the beard requirements for filling in were relaxed? Or maybe someone's feels comfortable that no challenge is coming
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Franco Twinkie:

Fred@4:01. Random luck more than physics is the operating principle. I just heap book in order to make a clear space to work. Very rarely do I have a collapse that causes me to interrupt the important work of doodling on a scrap of paper. Also, I tend to stack low. The floor is the biggest shelf in the house I always say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
fred:

@Mike: It's weird because of how things turned out, but you were instrumental in getting me hooked on WFMU. Thank you for that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Irene Trudel:

Dave and I are old friends. Long ago I ran sound for the Microscopic Septet, of which he was a charter member. We speak lots of music in common (and some not in common). Beard definitely optional in my case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm
Mike Lupica:

Well that is awesome to hear, Fred! You are most welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
fred:

I love Circle and Richard Dawson. Seeing them live would be great, but unlikely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Mike Lupica:

Agree -- It's my favorite flora-themed hypno-folk metal record of the year!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Mike Lupica:

Great lyric in this BIPED track: "There is no time, and there is never enough wine."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
fred:

@Mike: Please disclose the rest of your top ten flora-themed hypno-folk metal list!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm
Mike Lupica:

Too many to choose from!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Franco Twinkie:

I was waiting for someone to give this variant a name. Flora themed hypno-folk! I can live with that for the impending disaster...what ever that is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
fred:

I was lucky enough to see them separately. Circle were amazing playing Terminal, a metal tribute that was hilarious, earnest and serious at the same time. That's the way they roll, I guess
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
Mike Lupica:

I only ever saw Circle when they played at FMU years ago. They had an interaction with a newjack garage rock band that was... interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
doctorjazz:

Just got home, been listening in the car, thanks Mike, great to have you here today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
Gina Bacon:

Thank you, Mike! I thoroughly enjoyed your show!
I'm up next, right here from Nashville: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Ike:

As headphones go, I like JBL. Was VERY surprised when I finally gave in and got some Bluetooth wireless ones (by redeeming some of those dopey “points” from my credit union) that they are actually… good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
doctorjazz:

I assume that Circle is not the jazz version, with Dave Holland, Chick Corea, Barry Altschul, Anthony Braxton from a million years ago...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
chresti:

Hypnotic flower folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
chresti:

Thanks Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
Mike Lupica:

Thanks for hanging out, everyone! Stay tuned for Gina! wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
doctoDorjazz:

Don't get me started on headphones...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
fred:

Thanks for dropping by Mike, that meant a lot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
doctorjazz:

Good to the last drone...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Charlie:

It was great fun hearing part of this show in the car while driving! Groovy times we live in...
