I like the The Town and the City structure. That was Kerouacs first novel before he had broken the chain and headed into the uncharted land of free flowing imagery. But I love the struggle with the self confined by family, church, blah blah. Jack shot himself from a cannon and made a gaping hole in the culture. To bad he turned into a sad old reactionary drunk living with his mom.

Tolkein gardened his languages so they would evolve naturally w/ the worlds he created as needed. And, wow did he let his linguistic freak flag fly w/ that!

In contrast, GRM Martin only has three other languages fully fleshed out in his works (there are more, but they more or less just make cameo appearances, so it's hard to determine the depth of the languages). I have yet to so break those down, but it's something I may get into later this spring.

Feeling some New England saltiness... this is way better than the local stuff I heard on the Lecos Lama show in Boston at the time. RRN63 may know some more competitive cuts. Pre-internet, never knew this existed. Awesome.

I know squat about HipHop. I just remember being in SantaBarbara after the mid1980s & hearing adventurous things socially on KCSB the college radio (SB is not LA...) - before everybody got Busted for their Samples - & it seemed to turn around to Gansta braggadocio stuff. & I remember it was revelatory in exposition of inner city realities only barely heard about even in Leftist Journalism ...only now a sense of that again on BillyJam's FMU Program...

This was pretty much the death of hiphop for me (from Wikipedia): Grand Upright Music, Ltd v. Warner Bros. Records Inc., 780 F. Supp. 182 (S.D.N.Y. 1991), was a copyright case heard by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. Songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan sued rapper Biz Markie after Markie sampled O'Sullivan's song "Alone Again (Naturally)". The court ruled that sampling without permission constitutes copyright infringement. The judgment changed the hip hop music industry, requiring that any future music sampling be approved by the original copyright owners

OK - so this sent me down a rabbit hole - The Tom Tom Club half of the Talking Heads are from CT (Frantz spins on WPKN, a local legit freeform station) A lot of sonic overlap here with this comp. And JAYSUS, there is a story about the pair surviving a huge car accident a few weeks ago! www.theguardian.com...
