P-90:

I’ve had Strat-type guitars and Tele-type guitars, they’re very similar, like two versions of the same idea. They do excel at different things, but it’s all in what you do with them, there are tons of well-known tracks with guitars on them that might be one or the other but good luck telling which by listening. In my experience, a lot of players settle on one or the other because of the ergonomics, I.e, how a guitar “feels” to play.

  3:49pm

I bought myself a cheap Strat for the occasional instance when I want that tone but I find the sound of my PGW Phantom (basically Vox's version of the strat) more appealing for those times. It has more bite to it that the Fender which I dig.

P-90:

@drr: yes, it’s the way the instrument balances, how it sits against your body, even where the knobs are located. And response, like how the sound reacts to changes in picking dynamics, bending strings, etc. Lots of folks really seem to stick with one or the other because it’s what they’re familiar with, more than a big difference in function between the two. That goes for Teles and Strats with humbuckers too.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm
