Tom and all the Dashers! Happy to join you in the basement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am sphere:

hey all. nice to be on the DotDash chat. BTW, did you know that Boris has developed a massive fuzz guitar pedal? true story!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am sphere:

*Boris helped develop the pedal with EarthQuaker Devices, that is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am GorillaSnax:

Nice! I love the EarthQuaker pedals... I'd love to learn more about wire bending and the like. Tim C from RATM once explained that the fuzz he uses is from a "failed" attempt to build his own wah.
Avatar 9:05am HyperDose:

@sphere I've watched this AT LEAST fifty times. She's so freaking cool. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am StringOFperils:

Guitar FX pedals are like the best adult toys ever (barring the sexual realm I guess). Like electronic candy.

Nico! Iconic!

Poor Bagpipe still has the Hemorrhoid Pillow of Shame around his neck and will until the stitches come out. Have to get on the phone with the pet insurance today as they jacked the rates through the roof after the one payment they ever made.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Phillippe:

Hey sphere, been a while! How are ya?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm superglued to my wahwah - but I'm so hyped on having a decent guitar first time ever & just a Marshall practice amp w/ Gain & Reverb - I can't get my head around pedals ! I just wanna play... Maybe someday. Could never afford stuff...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:09am luka:

this sounds like rock and or roll
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

@StringOFperils: It's true. I got an Electro-Harmonix SuperEgo a while back. Fun to make it sound like I'm playing from across the Grand Canyon

I bought the first Saints album accidently when I was in 9th grade and played the hell out of it. It was my stepping stone from Foghat to Black Flag. So great.

The wife went on a Disney vacation with the grandkidz this week so I'm thinking that the Fender Twin Reverb may be shaking the walls this weekend.
Avatar 9:14am HyperDose:

My pops had a Fender Mustang back in the day. Wish he kept it would have loved to mess with the wiring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am sphere:

@ HyperDose - I just bought a Fender Duo-Sonic (another short-scale guitar)!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am sphere:

@ luca - very very cool! the Duo-Sonic was very popular with '70s NYC punks because it was the one of the cheapest Fenders they could find.
  9:19am listener monica:

sh*t I was just listening to the Leaving Trains cover of "Private Affair" yesterday.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:20am luka:

@sphere first time dealing with Sweetwater. weird to buy a guitar sight unseen but it worked out.
Avatar 9:20am HyperDose:

@sphere I like the HS pickup patterns on those. I'm a drummer, but since I rent I've been picking up guitar again. Haven't played since I was a teen. It's been fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Steeped in the blazing 1st Saints album - but only heard tracks here & there off the others. So, yeah. If there's any dispensable Saints I sure ain't heard it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am sphere:

@ luka - I bought mine direct from Fender and it turned out great. I have never understood the idea of being in love with a guitar, but I'm beginning to see the light!
  9:21am Bill K:

Messin w/the Kid, one of my favorite Saints songs. Thanks Tom!!
Avatar 9:21am Rev. Turnip Druid:

dispensable saints = superior band name rat there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am TomDash:

Bill K - been a while since I heard...such a classic - best ending too...
Avatar 9:23am HyperDose:

My dream guitar is a Les Paul Custom. Got the ESP LTD version of it. Originally wanted the EC-1000 T/CTM, but glad I waited for the 1001. Sounds a lot less woody and a bit more passive, even though the pickups are still active. Did a nut swap, heavier tuners (to balance the chambered body), and slapped .13's on it. 🔥
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm worried .13s are destroying my Squire Strat...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am jmr3:

"It makes you crawl"

@ Luka - yep. I need to work out the coil split thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...maybe should be a Gittarhead Program - as disgusting as that would be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

.13's?! Dang. I have to go with .10's. I have baby hands (apparently).
Avatar 9:26am HyperDose:

Yeah it's a lil jenky, Rev. Have to get the truss adjusted which I'm definitely not touching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'm just hyped on having a gittar *stay in tune* like the 1st time in my life...
Avatar 🎸 9:27am Listener Jonny in South Central... (Ohio):

I have a limited edition Squire Bullett that is actually a TeleStrat design, made only in 85 and 86. Solid guitar, lovely tone, and a beautiful neck that plays itself.

The thing could NEVER stay in tune until I was looking at replacing the bridge and discovered a thing Clapton did to his guitars called "blocking the bridge". Has kept in tune for the past 6 years since.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:27am mndave:

Morning TD and all! If this set doesn't hook someone on the Saints I'm not sure what would
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Feel like a poseur not knowing how to do one's own trussrod - but yeah..
Avatar 9:28am Jack:

If you like using heavier gauge strings, just down tune a half step or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Hughie Considine:

Enjoying this rip-roaring set -- Evan Funk Davies did a great Saints tribute featuring a bunch of the '80s stuff. Well worth a dive.
  9:28am Will:

@Mike W. Not so weird, mine too. Bigger Ed Kuepper presence, this song Brisbane is one he wrote w. his vocals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am TomDash:

Hey Hughes - yes saw that EFD set...will check it. Never got past the 3rd LP personally but I'm sure there are some solid tunes...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Hughie Considine:

Haha, I get it, @Tom! I actually love some of the later stuff, All Fools Day in particular, but then I champion many of those late-period LPs that hardcore fans reject, e.g., Warehouse: Songs and Stories and Pleased to Meet Me

Thanks for the tip, Jack! I always drop the E string on bass down a half-step for a Frank Bello cut through the mix type thing. If you can play the intro to "When You're Strange" open note on E, you're set.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am TomDash:

yep Analog - Ryan Jewell on drums...in Chris's current band...
Avatar 9:44am Jack:

I used to use .13s, tuned my '69 Strat down a half step (ala Hendrix) Monster tone! The neck thanked me. Bought it in 1971 for $150, still sounds and plays beautiful! Only smart thing I ever did in my life, to keep it and take care of it.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:44am McGroovey:

Ruth: ditto!

I work on my own guitars, because I'm cheap, and I don't want to pay anyone to do it, and I have the time, and possibly the skills. Most things are intimidating the first time, and then you realize that guitars aren't rocket science. They're pieces of wood (mostly wood), put together with screws and simple geometry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

$150 ...slightly more than I paid for a Squire couple years ago. Also have a Charvel gifted to me by the Vermont fellow who was recently in the Jerry Garcia Band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

McGroovey - inspirational. Thx...
Avatar 9:47am HyperDose:

Charvel's are sweet. I'd love to have an older Caparison to mess around and learn more guitar tech stuff with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am sphere:

@ Luca - I hear that the Duo Sonic can use heavier strings because of the short-scale neck.
Avatar 🎸 9:50am Analog Nights:

I'd love to hear Forsyth do a full album with Rosali
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Charvel is like a pared-down race car - no fancy upholstery but very fast if you're up to that. I'm a Strat person @ heart. Not that I'd pee on a Les Paul or SG or Rick by any means...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am sphere:

Scott Ian of Anthrax has his own line of Jackson Guitars. I guess someone remembers the 80s.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:52am Handy Haversack:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yer real dashing like that HH.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:53am McGroovey:

But I'd be slightly nervous about working on someone else's guitar. And very nervous about working on someone else's valuable guitar. And extremely nervous about working on someone else's guitar for money (valuable or not).

I have mostly cheap guitars--some built at home from used bailing wire and old furniture. Metaphorically.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am TomDash:

@Analog - Rosali's touring with David Nance and his band/friends from Omaha currently...opening for Destroyer I think? She played some shows with Emily Robb backing her...who is up next! Philly!!!

@Rev What's your stance on PRS? 🤔
Avatar 🎸 9:57am Analog Nights:

@dash yeah I'll be there. Love both. Would love to see Rosali headline. She's amazing.

HyperD - same as my stance on going into Space - be nice to be that revoltingly wealthy. Not sure I've bothered, therefore, to touch one... Yerknow, John Lennon said gimme a tuba & I'll make Art. Sh*t - that's the *real* Standard...

I do dig Emily Robb a lot. Who wouldn't?

Would love to see Rosali, but I don't think I'll jump through all the hoops of Brooklyn Steel just to see her as an opener. Oh, and also we're seeing the Chats in Greenpoint that night!
Avatar 10:01am fm Mike:

Thank you Hyper :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:03am McGroovey:

There are loads of good videos about truss rods on YouTube.

The basic idea is, the truss rod counters the pull of the strings. If your strings, at pitch, are pulling on your neck and pulling so much that your neck bows, then you tighten the truss rod--generally no more than 1/4 turn. But if your neck is straight when your strings are tuned to pitch, then the problem isn't your truss rod (if there's a problem).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:03am Handy Haversack:

Go get 'em, fm Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am sphere:

So what do.you think of "King Vitamin and the Anarchy," Handy?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:06am McGroovey:

@Handy what are the hoops of Brooklyn Steel? I don't mind going there because parking is easy there, compared to almost everywhere else in NYC now. Things I don't like: it's too loud for human ears, and sometimes too cold.

McGroovey -- they seem to have switched to app only for ticket delivery, so I'd have to find you or Manny or someone who'd also want to go. Plus, it's a TERRIBLE venue for shorter people, so it's hard on K8.

LesleyK, I called axs to ask if that were possible, and they told me no. I guess I could take the risk at some point and experiment? I know that Dice says that's how it works. I'll be finding out soon enough!

But axs is the new Ticketmaster, it seems like, and they don't seem to care about us the smartphone-less.

Don't worry, McGroovey -- they don't come up much! Basically, I'm just indulging myself here!

I loved In Search Of. I think it was on between Wild Kingdom and Lawrence Welk on Saturday evenings in Syracuse.

Ah, good, the new Sault -- was hoping to hear some soon when I saw the announcement come out!
Avatar 11:42am ParUbi:

Wow, so it truly is a full skeleton-crew situation?

Thanks Handy- totally brings me some UFO /Yeti vibes

I watche Paranormal Caught On Camera last night. It's so awful it destined to become a cult classic.

What would a 2022 version of In Search Of… feature?

i've searched for that Wackie's studio in the bronx but it is no longer there. We had the street address to go by and the number was somewhere between a real estate office and shoe store now. The documentary on Wackie's studio is great.

Two of my three kids are D&D nerds. We tried to do a family D&D game, but I've kid quit out of boredom (not one of the D&D nerds), and one quit because we were having to much fun, not taking it seriously enough. The third one lives in his own house.

*one kid quit

@HH Not familiar with Appendix T, as I only played the original old-school issue of D&D. Linky? Google not helping alas.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:46am Handy Haversack:

Threemoons, it's in the (generally terrible) AD&D book Unearthed Arcana. "Appendix T: Nomenclature of the Polearm."

That "Flaming One" graphic at the top does not seem like
a Freudian slip
nor
"When is a Pipe not a Pipe" Maigret...
That looks like INTENTIOAL ART !!!
I remember when I had a lover ... "SIGH !!!!"
Going up the road to a Madrid church to see how they are handling Jesus's dead body ...17:46 CET/Spain time..

@HH Thank you! I don't think I have that one. I have the original Monster Manual, Demigods and Demons, etc.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:51am Threemoons 🌛🌕🌜:

@HH I also gave away most of my copies of Dragon Magazine...sigh.
