I don’t think votes are cast for the best ideas or policies
Votes are cast
to take out
the opposition
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13am

Politics now isn't about voting for who you want to win. But voting against the one you don't want to win.

Sadly ture, Scott.

Here in the US, we're stuck voting for "the lesser of two evils." Thing is, "evil" gets normalized.

Here in the US a voter in Wyoming has an atomic bomb, while voters in more popolous states have a bb gun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19am
Scott67:

Voting here is compulsory. I can't comprehend people abstaining.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am
Brian D:

True @Kamp. @Scott, I always laugh when US media highlight "disappointing voter turnout" in other countries when even poor turnout in other countries is far higher than normal turnout here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23am
fred:

re: genocide trial, about ten years ago, I worked on software that was used to disguise the voice of witnesses in the Rwanda trial. I used readings of Howl by Allen Ginsberg to test it (it tended to drift over time so that the real voice came through, so I needed a long voice track)
  4:23am
LiXiviated Life:

Im hanging on to hope.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27am
fred:

@Brian: A factor is that voting happens on Sundays here, and there are so many polling stations that voting doesn't take that long
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30am
Brian D:

@Fred, I wonder if everyone read Howl if there would be any genocide... And, you're right, Sunday voting would help here. Our government puts up impediments to voting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35am

OK, I'm off to vote

@Brian D
A person should
come to poetry
with intention.
It requires
that you bring
an open heart.
A poem will yield
only as much
as you bring to it.

If everyone just read Howl, there’d be nothing but more confusion, argument and chaos.

I’ve thought lately that influence is how things change.
Disruptions of football games will not change behavior unless your goal is to aggravate sports fans.
I’ve come to think that actions like those in the Guardian article are more the person involved than the cause.
Then again, what do I know.

About today, I feel trapped inside a loop ( inside the mouth of darkness maybe a story that loops on & on ) anyway, just wanted to tell you I climbed the minor alps ( thanks for the disc you suggested I got there ) named Ventoux again, bike therapy helps me like music does, so....I hope for better days ♡

The SF/fantasy author Ann Leckie recommended this book — before that I had not heard of Cat Rambo, and I would’ve incorrectly assumed they were a cheesy airport action novel author. But the book is fun and thoughtful, with aliens that are actually kind of alien, something you don’t see too much.
