	♥ 9:15am Handy Haversack: I was taking the ferry back to Greenpoint from a softball game on the LES in Manhattan once a few years back, waiting to transfer in Long Island City, and the wind blew a little white-eyed vireo right into the plexiglass wall! I scopped it up and held it in my hand to keep it warm until the ferry came, and it was still stunned then, so it rode the ferry to Brooklyn with me! I got to a bush on the Greenpoint pier and could feel it stirring, so I opened my hand, and it must have recovered. Flew to bush, fence, and back to bush. A much happier story than when we found the concussed owlet.
	9:15am Scott in Maryland: These lovely bird songs remind me of the late, great Robert J. Lurtsema and his opening sound montage for "Morning Pro Musica", the radio program he hosted on public radio on WBGH in Boston for nearly 30 years.

My Mom remembers, as R.J-L. had his radio show out of Gloucester, MA. would simply leave the station for lunch and broadcast 'dead-air' until he returned from his mid-day meal. My Mom also showed me a copy of his book of collected writing, mostly poetry.

Still, the fact that I had to wait 20+ years to make a decision about MY OWN FUCKING BODY that led to "no babies" when I could have gotten pregnant at any time and carried it to term without anyone else's input speaks volumes about just how fucked we are.

Originally, the Senate was appointed by state legislatures, probably from their own ranks, so that they at least had some respect and experience in legislation and the issues of their states. Once Senators became popularly elected, that changed its essential nature. Not that it was a good nature to begin with, but the bicameral system dates from when states were conceptually more like individual countries, needing interstate commerce regulation. The Federal government was weaker. But more disturbing here is the neglect of deference to universal human rights as a legislative standard.

And without cooperation from Manchin and Sinema on filibuster reform, there is literally nothing Senate Dems can do about abortion or any of the issues you mentioned.

I scopped it up and held it in my hand to keep it warm until the ferry came, and it was still stunned then, so it rode the ferry to Brooklyn with me! Originally, the Senate was appointed by state legislatures, probably from their own ranks, so that they at least had some respect and experience in legislation and the issues of their states. Once Senators became popularly elected, that changed its essential nature. Not that it was a good nature to begin with, but the bicameral system dates from when states were conceptually more like individual countries, needing interstate commerce regulation. The Federal government was weaker. But more disturbing here is the neglect of deference to universal human rights as a legislative standard.

The Senate Majority leader is going to be putting legislation codifying Roe on the Senate floor but it is doomed because basically any meaningful act by the body requires a 2/3rds majority. The Democratic Party is a flawed coalition but it has never been as progressive as it is today. And without cooperation from Manchin and Sinema on filibuster reform, there is literally nothing Senate Dems can do about abortion or any of the issues you mentioned.
