A three-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

McLuhan has had an interesting trajectory. His first book, "The Mechanical Bride," was a critical work influenced by the Frankfurt School. Then he switched to. positive view of media, and was embraced by communication scholars, who traditionally felt pretty marginal. No, he said, they were doing the most important work of all! Then he fell out of favor but he's sexy again because of the Internet. Basically, he would have been a hell of an ad man -- his scholarship was suspect, but he was brilliant at aphorisms.

Dean, I know you're familiar with Eye Witness News on Channel seven. This afternoon I went to my moms house under the impression I was going there to water the plants. You know what I did instead? fell asleep on the couch while Dallas Rains did the weather. They don't talk about the conflict between Russia and The Ukraine. Instead they do segments on the rising problem of street racing in the San Fernando Valley, which is fine, no one I encounter on my daily route talks about the war. I look at the BBC and France 24 now and then if I want to see carnage of the most horrific sort. I never watch TV at home, but I'm entitled to fall asleep without having nightmares, I think. TV is poison for the most part, but so is Pepsi. Just one Pepsi, all is I want is one Pepsi!
