Got to see most of the bands and performers I wanted to. First day's highlight was Ziggy Marley doing all his dad's songs. 2nd day, Black Crows, Elvis Costello and was surprised that Charlie Sexton was on guitar for him. That was a nice surprise. I also got to catch a few songs of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes in the Blues Tent. I've always like them and enjoyed that. I was popping around for the headliners. All 3 of those played at the same time. I also go to see Samantha Fish. She's an incredible guitarist - holds her own! Also saw her at Tipatina's when she sat in with Dumpstafunk their last set. Dumpstafunk has Ivan Neville and his son in the group, too.
Stevie Nicks did a great performance, too, the few songs I saw of her. Had to spread out who we saw that headlining night, too. Mavis Staples was incredible, as was Buddy Guy. Can't believe he can still rock it at 85 or so! New Birth Brass Band was going off! Irma was fab. Love her, of course! Dr. John tribute was pretty good. Radiators were killin' it! Rickie Lee Jones was cool. Let me think of who else I saw...Oh, yeah, how could I forget. Boz Skaggs was awesome! He can still sing and rock it!

Neo-Tokyo 2022 or something like that were really cool - kind of a psychedelic jazzy fusion. They had a killer gal keyboardist! All from Japan. Very cool!

dang, that sounds incredible

Also there were brass bands playing outside the fest right after and on Friday night, this was so cool and outta sight, actually - guys a couple houses down from the exit on Gentilly right past the brass band on the street were playing cool instrumentals - psychadelic, funky stuff in a van! Full drum kit and one keyboard in the van and another just outside the back of the van, he was kinda the leader and another guy next to him on a electronic, small drum kit, kinda like electronic bongos, and a guy on bass out the side of the van! They were awesome! Playing on the side of the yard! I got lots of videos of them, too. We were crackin' up at the setup and jammin' to them! I'll be posting videos on FB and Insta soon of the fest.
We also went down to Frenchman street on Thurs. night and I had no idea there would be so much going on there now. Killer brass band playing as we walked up! We got poured on at 1:00 a.m., too, trying to leave to get back to my car. Crazy lightning storm came up and then the rain and it didn't look like it was gonna let up anytime soon! So, we just had to go for it just like many others!

We met so many nice people, too, and discovered a very cool taco shop close to where we parked at a house every day. It's called Caddy Shack on Gentilly. The lady who owns it is from Austin! She was super cool! Killer tacos! We ate there twice leaving the fest

Haha, Matt! I just can't take the humidity there and having to deal with hurricanes a lot. I grew up with that and had enough. I do love to visit, though, Matt. Happy my sis lives there and I can visit a lot

Dan! It was awesome. I was set up selling all 3 days so I only spent $38!!!! A new record for me. Incredible. But dang, there were a lot of cool 45s!!! Lots of friends there to catch up with too

Matt, when we were leaving on Saturday, there were guys that had a table in their front yard on our path to our cars that were eating crawfish. I made a comment about they looked good. He offered me one and I ate it and then they had a cooler full of them they had been selling for $10 a to do container full of. I said I'd buy a plate and we sat down and ate and talked to them about an hour! They were so cool! They are right there on Gentilly, said they do it every year. Made new friends! They said they'd be there next yr. Plan to see them again!

Hey Danny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Cool Candy. Glad you had fun. I was a lazy punk and went less to Jazz Fest than I expected. It was a little too hot for me to enjoy it most days.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Candy-O'67:

I don't blame you, Matt. It was super hot. By Day 3, I got sunburned bad on my nose and shoulders. I don't think I did the first 2 days because we didn't get the strongest part of the sun. Didn't get there til 3:00 first day. I had a lot of work going on that morning and we got in late Wednesday night. Got there at 2:00 on Friday, 1:00 on Saturday, and noon on Sunday! I finally wore a hat on Sunday and put sunscreen on 4 times throughout the day, which helped, had to wear a short sleeve shirt that day, too, to cover my shoulders. They couldn't take any more sun! I've kinda got a base town now on certain spots on my body. Haha
