Today's playlist was chosen with the counsel of Marandi Hostetter, a founder of Brooklyn Maqam brooklynmaqam.com... and draws heavily on recordings of live concerts presented by the group and also by Robert Browning Associates www.robertbrowningassociates.com.

I saw different folks at the grocery this afternoon buying birthday balloons and birthday cake. Maybe they're headed doctorj's way.
Also, the checkout person apologized for being new and having a couple insignificant delays, but she'd already gotten me totally on her side by calling her scanning gun "a brat," and calling my butternut squash "a little dickens."
  5:32pm
ruth:

I've seen her a few times. There were a lot of dance movements as she sang.

Friend of mine laughed a couple years back -- LAUGHED -- at me when I spoke the name of Umm Kalthoum. She'd spent time in an an Arab region and knew of the singer and thought I was WAY off and had distorted it to absurdity. But since then, I've more than once heard pronunciations very, very close to mine. Some say life needs a laugh track. I say it also needs a laugh backtrack.
