Hi Candy! I agree…. Always a good show with the Neckbreakers. They used to play at the Bug Jar a lot back when I was too young to be there but there anyways😉
Avatar 9:12pm Les The DJ:

Hahaha! I finally figured out how to get to your chat, Father!!! Gonna listen while tidying up!
Avatar 9:13pm Fatherflot:

Welcome Les! I did some cleaning this week to this episode in draft form, so it should work. . .

Yay, Shocking Blueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Avatar 9:14pm Fatherflot:

First Shocking Blue track of the night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Stu Rutherford:

Saw the Neckbreakers more times than I can count in the '90s! One of the last times I saw them was at the Court Tavern where they were recording their show for a possible live LP. Tom had a cold that night and I'm guessing that's why the live show never got released but they sounded fine and played practically everything they in their repertoire that night!
  9:15pm Daisy:

Les played a cover of Venus
Avatar 9:15pm Fatherflot:

I wonder if this idiom about the bird of paradise landing on your nose sounds less silly in Dutch.
Avatar 9:15pm Fatherflot:

Daisy -- Yup and I immediately thought -- I'm hitting SB hard tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Candy-O'67:

So cool, Stu! Sounds like an awesome show! I saw them at least a couple of times at Mary Janes in Houston back then and once in Long Beach at a really cool venue I can't remember the name of now when I first moved there. It closed down a couple years after I moved out there in the early '90's. I'm gonna have to find out the name of it again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Candy-O'67:

Correction - I mistyped. That was early 2000's, supposed to be!
  9:17pm Daisy:

  10:09pm Androu B.:

@Stu Rutherford

The Swingin' Neckbreakers was among just many popular acts to play The Court Tavern on a constant basis. One of my favorites that I would go to see every chance I got and got plenty of airplay on a certain nightly radio program on WRSU (Rutgers Univ.) was Destroy All Bands. The lead singer was such a total f-up. I remember some nights he dressed up as a Droog (he was probably a big fan of "A Clockwork Orange"). He was also a shameless, hedonistic alkie. I could only imagine the guy must've had mighty low self-esteem to let himself go the way he did. Don't know what happened to him. But a lot of folks close to him, I can only surmise, must've worried and feared he'd join the "27 Club".
10:09pm Kick out the Jams Joe:

Well good choice Sunken

Who is this band? Never heard of them…
Avatar 10:23pm mrfusion:

I’m stuck in a time loop…typical
Avatar 10:23pm Fatherflot:

I spent a lot of time this week learning this song. This song shows their jazz vocabulary. It has a diminished chord, an augmented chord, and several major 7ths. Masterful and sophisticated harmonic stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm Candy-O'67:

Disturbarama there, FF! LOL
  10:25pm Androu B.:

DAB self-released an album on vinyl and cassette, which are now pretty hard to find. But two of the tracks from that album have been included on compilations. "No Time Left" was the one they were best known for and got the most airplay.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Candy-O'67:

Fatherflot, I got to see him up close and personal at the backstage area when he played Austin at Mohawk last fall. I'm friends with one of the guys in Los Straight Jackets, Chris Sprague and they are his backing band these days. So, I got to hang out back there, but I didn't get him to introduce Nick to me. I was a little gun shy. Didn't know what to say to such royalty AT ALL! hahaha!
