Mr Fab:

it may be almost 1pm and fairly sunny where I am, but soon I'll be donning my trench coat and fedora and walking down those mean, neon-lit, rain-dampened streets.
Why do walking bass lines follow me wherever I go?
Avatar 3:42pm
Rubberband Girl:

Ready to roll on this end!
Avatar 3:43pm
Mr Fab:

Greetings, RBG! How was your holiday?
Avatar 3:45pm
Rubberband Girl:

Very active! One highlight – catching the 50th anniversary of the electrical light parade!!
Avatar 3:46pm
Rubberband Girl:

Of course I had to nerd out and tell my niece and nephews all about Perrey & Kingsley and play them the original "Baroque Hoedown" afterward.
Avatar 3:48pm
Mr Fab:

Haha, good for you! Certainly the first thing that pops to my mind.
Avatar 3:49pm
Rubberband Girl:

I hadn't been for 10 years (and only a couple times before that), so I'd honestly completely forgotten.
Avatar 3:51pm
Mr Fab:

I'm afraid to ask how much Dizzyland cost you. SO, so glad that my daughter doesn't want to go.

Did you make it to Trader Sam's and get a tiki mug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Hi! Looking forward to this.
Avatar 3:55pm
Mr Fab:

hey, PK! Hope you're packing a gat. There's some rough characters around here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Over here the weather is rainy and dark, so perfect for some noir raido.
Avatar 4:00pm
Otis:

Rubberband Fab in the joint!
Avatar 4:00pm
Mr Fab:

suddenly everything's black and white...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
WR:

I'm missing DJ RBG already.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
Austin Rich:

Hey, this sounds like my show...
Avatar 4:01pm
HyperDose:

Someone stole the percussion!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Puddles in the streets. Reflecting neon flashes. Yellow cabs rushing by. Women with umbrellas.
Avatar 4:03pm
Mr Fab:

Hey Otis. Not "Mr. Girl"?
WR: RBG IS here, just pulling the strings behind the scenes.
yes Austin, def some "Box 13" moods here.
Avatar 4:03pm
Domenic:

Well this is pleasant. Bob Belden, who did Cds covering Sting and Prince.
Avatar 4:04pm
Mr Fab:

HyperDose: "The Case OF The Stolen Percussion." Hmm, maybe next time.
  4:06pm
Charles:

Some would think it was a mere coincidence that a day off would allow me to tune in at this odd hour but I knew better. I knew it was fate inviting me to partake in solving this radio mystery.
Avatar 4:06pm
Otis:

I like, DJ Rubberfab Girl!
Avatar 4:07pm
Mr Fab:

Domenic: yes, i've checked out those albums. Some interesting if rather unlikely stuff there.
Avatar 4:08pm
Mr Fab:

Hi, Charles, come on in, but don't sit with your back to the door. And don't trust a blonde!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
WR:

RBG as The Puppet Master? Looking forward to hearing her Lugosi voice.
Avatar 4:09pm
Mr Fab:

Can't have an episode of Provocative Percussion without some Enoch Light.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
Rich in Washington:

don't knock the Enoch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm
Franco Twinkie:

Last night was blue, but this morning was grey. FAB!
Avatar 4:10pm
Rubberband Girl:

Sometimes I forget the Enoch Light!
Avatar 4:11pm
Sonderangebot:

mmmm sexy sax
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Blinded by the Enoch light.
Avatar 4:12pm
HyperDose:

Sheena's is the most sax positive stream. Bar none.
Avatar 4:12pm
Mr Fab:

Enoch's Light, but the club was dark.

Still, i can make out Rich, Franco, and Sondy. Greetings, all. Your usual drinks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I really am enjoying this, Mr. Fab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

Warm tap water for me, thanks.
Avatar 4:14pm
Otis:

Set me up with a Sidecar Fab, light on the salt rim see.
Avatar 4:14pm
Mr Fab:

Sonderangebot: you said "sexy"? Julie London is here to make a sap out of every fella in this joint.
Avatar 4:15pm
Mr Fab:

PK: mission accomplished!
Avatar 4:17pm
Mr Fab:

Mind if I join you in one, Otis? But how would we both fit! (Sorry, what do I think this is, a comedy show?)

David Lynch soundtracks - now this caper is getting dangerous.
Avatar 4:19pm
HyperDose:

Speaking of comedy, I just finished watching the Carlin doc. It's so good it will bring you to tears.
Avatar 4:19pm
Sonderangebot:

That's right! Never without my Shirley Temple!
Avatar 4:19pm
Otis:

Better make that a Cable Car Fab, gonna be here for a spell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm
Franco Twinkie:

When do we hear the voice of The Fabulator, or do you want to stay under the cloak of mystery?
Avatar 4:22pm
Otis:

Okay, who's the wise one with the fog machine? Smokey in this mug!
Avatar 4:22pm
Mr Fab:

Franco, kinda doing a "High Waisted Modernists" thing, letting the music and dialogue bits tell its' own story.
Avatar 4:22pm
Otis:

Franco, back here, back table. I got a bowl of plums and cherries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Franco Twinkie:

Hi Otis! Have we ever had the pleasure on a Monday afternoon?
Avatar 4:24pm
Otis:

It's a rare Monday Meetup. Diggin' it!
Avatar 4:24pm
HyperDose:

My cat just woke up. Now I have a dance partner for this shindig!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Franco Twinkie:

I like that Fab. Let the peanut gallery steer the bus.
Avatar 4:25pm
Mr Fab:

Otis, plums and cherries, eh? yeah, they're pretty cute, all right. But are those broads old enough to be in here?
Avatar 4:26pm
Mr Fab:

yep, Franco. Bogie and Peter Lorre are probably more interesting than another DJ back-announcing.
  4:26pm
Charles:

Oh hey I'm glad I can put a name on this song now. I always loved it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm
Franco Twinkie:

Cherries are insane right now in Southern California, Otis. They're my crack.
Avatar 4:29pm
Mr Fab:

I hang on to every second of this track. Utter perfection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm
Rich in Washington:

I always like a particular review of the Algren novel Man With The Golden Arm 'It's as if William Burroughs and Jack Kerouac collaborated on a crime novel edited by Upton Sinclair".
Avatar 4:30pm
HyperDose:

How does one get in on this underground cherry smuggling?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
Rich in Washington:

There was a splendid Sun Ra marathon on KFJC all yesterday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
Franco Twinkie:

No cherries at the bodega Hyper?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@Hyperdose: Lots of tunneling I guess.
Avatar 4:33pm
Mr Fab:

I've never read "Man With The Golden Arm" but damn, i sure want to now.
Avatar 4:33pm
Sonderangebot:

I wonder if the guy she's looking at is Bill Doggett
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

It appears she is looking at the ground and not at the picture.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Doggett may be on the floor.
  4:36pm
Charles:

In a dark corner I noticed a few patrons whispering. Something to do with small fruits. I didn't know what that was about but one thing was for certain... it was suspicious and I needed to get closer, silently.
Avatar 4:37pm
Mr Fab:

couple covers here of "saloon-song" era Sinatra before the goons bust in.
Avatar 4:38pm
Mr Fab:

this is from "Double Indemnity"
Avatar 4:38pm
HyperDose:

A bodega that carries cherries? You're lucky if you can find non moldy strawberries guey. Hoping there's a farmer's market closeby
Avatar 4:39pm
Mr Fab:

Charles, you're gonna blow The Big Fruit caper wide open!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
MHLee:

I almost completely forgot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
MHLee:

More noir today, Fab?
Avatar 4:41pm
Mr Fab:

MHLee: indeed, sir. And you claim that you forgot? Maybe a few hours in the interrogation room will help you remember!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
Franco Twinkie:

Why aren't my encounters with women veiled with such snappy hostility?

I like Fred MacMurray as a heavy as opposed to that kind hearted doofus he played on My Three Sons.
Avatar 4:44pm
Domenic:

Just noticed those are Tiki mugs on the Brian Setzer cover art..
Avatar 4:44pm
Mr Fab:

Yeah, and Edgar G Robinson was the GOOD guy. Some clever reverse-casting there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm
MHLee:

I need to dig deeper into Brian Setzer
Avatar 4:46pm
Mr Fab:

Domenic: it's hard to look like you're in the middle of serious business with a goofy tiki mug in hand.

Unless it's just to throw everyone off.
Avatar 4:47pm
HyperDose:

From what, the tommy gun?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Rich in Washington:

Not a Robyn Hitchcock cover, I see.
Avatar 4:48pm
Mr Fab:

MHLee: that track is just a masterpiece. If you only know him from, say, "Stray Cat Strut," yeah, check out his big band stuff, it's on a whole other level.
Avatar 4:49pm
Mr Fab:

Rich, you are peering into the future!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
MHLee:

I saw Robyn Hitchcock live in Dublin. Fun guy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
Rich in Washington:

whoops! Sorry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
Franco Twinkie:

Regarding Double Indemnity: This is particularly L.A. thing, but when Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck are heading for the train station (Glendale) you can hear the unmistakable sound of a Helms Bakery truck in the back round. It's at night-no Helms deliveries at night. Foley artist joke?
Avatar 4:52pm
Mr Fab:

what makes a Helms Bakery truck sound different from any other truck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Austin Rich:

I loved this one Mr. Fab! Thanks fo putting me in the mood!
Avatar 4:52pm
Sonderangebot:

Gotta run but quick word to say nice fill-in, Fab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
WR:

That is a fun fact Franco. I just lined up to watch D I again soon, will listen for that.
Avatar 4:53pm
Mr Fab:

thanks, Austin & Sondy, glad you could help solve this caper!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Aitch:

Good morning Mr Fab
Avatar 4:54pm
spacebrother:

Just finished my playlist! Hello!
Nice fill-in, looking at the list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
Franco Twinkie:

They had manually operated air horns. Kind of like bellows, or a squeeze box.
Avatar 4:55pm
Mr Fab:

Aitch, spacebrother! Hello, I must be going.
Avatar 4:55pm
spacebrother:

But you still have 4 minutes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
Franco Twinkie:

You're to young to remember Fab. Helms stopped doing home delivery in 1969, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

It was a great hour of relaxed blue atmosphere in smoky black and white. Thanks, mr. Fab!
Avatar 4:57pm
Mr Fab:

Now i'll have to rewatch, knowing that fascinating factoid, Franco.
Avatar 4:58pm
HyperDose:

Thank you for this sweet treat, Mr Fab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm
Franco Twinkie:

WR, I jumped the first time I saw the movie on TV as a kid. That sound meant fresh donuts.
Avatar 4:58pm
Domenic:

Very nice,,, thank you. Charlie Haden was nice... and a vocalist with Sun-Ra...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
WR:

Thanks MR, It's been FAB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm
Franco Twinkie:

There he is!
  4:59pm
Charles:

Thanks Mr Fab!
Avatar 5:00pm
Mr Fab:

thanks to all of YOU. Wouldn't be any fun without such a lively crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

100 points.
Avatar 5:00pm
Otis:

Anybody give a fella a lift, gotta punch the clock back at the factory.
Avatar 5:00pm
Mr Fab:

now let's all listen to spacebrother
Avatar 5:01pm
Otis:

Thanks Fab for the swimming in the dive.
