Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Bronwyn is coming! I prophesy it! (Or maybe prophecy it; can never remember.)

Is it the same guy? Who played Mr. Magoo's voice in the cartoons??

My words shall never pass away either. They will be preserved in the WFMU archives.

I usually need at least 24 hours notice before I can "rock out," as you term it.

I love The Black Rider, but it might be questioned whether the music is rock. Please don't ask me what it is, though.
Avatar 🎭 7:31pm
Listener Gregory:

It is based on the actual opera (or the folktale behind it), Der Freischütz by von Weber.

The internet waited until a Sparks song came to have buffering issues! Now I know for sure the world has gone to poop.

I just finished watching the Beatles documentary Get Back and was taken aback to see Alan Parsons there as the "tape operator." He was apparently an audio engineer before he began to do his own musical projects.
Avatar 7:49pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I should probably get around to watching that. I grew up Beatles-obsessed and then totally abandoned them for the Beach Boys when I was 20. Which reminds me that I want my boys to have a big documentary. They could call it Getcha Back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Yeah I left them for the Beach Boys too and never went back.
Avatar 7:51pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

Beach Boys solidarity!!!!

I remember the specific moment when I became a Beach Boys convert. I was listening to the Sloop John B vocals-only which I had randomly come across on Spotify and wandering around Kensington, London. I had to stop and clutch an iron fence to deal with the beauty

I am glad to provide my unwanted opinion, which is that the best song from a rock opera is Love Reign O'er Me from Quadrophenia.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
TonyR:

FYI - "Champagne" was written expressly for the film version of "Tommy" and is sung by Ann-Margret.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Oh wow I should look for that Sloop John B! I was driving around today and heard Kokomo which is kind of a cornball song and it was in Cocktail. but still the harmony and voices are so beautiful.
Plus all their songs are the best key for me to sing along with.

I'll give you "satellite", mister!!

According to Discogs, you are correct KWilde.

The Fagan track pulled me to the playlist page because it reminded me of very early David Bowie. Pre major tom.

"Rasputin" is also an opera by major Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara.
