Hi Hy! Hi Jan!

Music like this makes me want to plan a heist
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm
ironybread:

Indeed, Hyper, the music of David Holmes has pretty much the same effect

I think Rich just found what he's been looking for!!!
Avatar 1:37pm
HyperDose:

WFMU has been pretty Björk heavy lately. Not complaining. Just wish Enya would get her due, y'know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm
Wich in Rashington:

Oh wow! I NEVER thought anyone would sample this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Wich in Rashington:

sorry. that read a bit click baity.
I am pretty sure this song samples Arthur Brown's Animal People (among other things).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm
ironybread:

Oddly enough Hyper a few weeks ago I went back to two people I hadn't listened to since college, Enya and Enigma. Enya's first two albums are great downers, absolutely the best albums for sitting very beautifully and crying. And I mean that in a good way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm
Which Rich in Washington:

Someone turned me onto Enya during a period of grief and healing and I found her music really beautiful. I should revisit her catalogue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
ironybread:

And the first Enigma album is really quite good, no surprise since Michael Cretu had already been making the Euro-dance pop for ten years at that point. Too bad "MCMXC A.D." is very solidly stuck in that period in dance-pop history when there was only one shakuhachi sample available in the entire recording industry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm
ironybread:

Just noting that this Steely Dan song is not appropriate for grief and healing except in very special cases.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
Rich in Washington:

shakuhachi is cancelled
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
ironybread:

HA

Rich in Washington:

I remember buying this record new as a youngster and thinking 'that's it! I'm a new waver now!', thinking it was a really bold mood for someone living in a relatively hillbilly town like mine at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm
ironybread:

Tim Cook handed me this Weird Paul CD one day at KUOI and said "You'll like this guy, he's goofy"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
ironybread:

Rich, my first XTC was "Go 2" and was indeed completely suckered by the Hipgnosis cover design
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
Rich in Washington:

I could never find Go 2 or Drums and Wires until many years later. I literally found a nearly complete early XTC discography on vinly at a Value Village (RIP) once and it completed my early collection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm

vinly. lol.

@Wich Enya does have that cathartic effect. Her music also makes wildly mediocre movies seem tolerable. That woman truly has a gift.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm
Rich in Washington:

good god. This production gives Jack Dangers a run for his money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm
ironybread:

@Hyper Enya absolutely gives the kiss of "I no longer hate this movie" to movies that are deeply deeply meh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm
ironybread:

here's the requisite link to an article about the face mapped onto the waveform of this song: www.wired.com...
Avatar 2:08pm
HyperDose:

She also had the best life insurance policy. "I'm gonna get hella rich, then drop off the face of the Earth and live in a castle full of cats". Her feline-centric hustle is both inspiring and respected.

I can totally hear this song being some obscure 70s Uptown New York band.

Where, I cry out, WHERE is the Lou Reed single for Record Store Day, "My Name Is Mok" b/w "Triumph"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm

the Hot Dogs & Sushi one, I mean.

Totally!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
ironybread:

I had a brief email correspondence with director Clive Smith years ago, and Melleny Brown is his ex-wife...I told him if he could convince Melleny to do a proper issue of "Hot Dogs and Sushi" I'd erect bronze statues in both their honor, or words to that effect
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm

Iggy clearly took on this soundtrack assignment with pure glee
