Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sometimes TheStandells are framed as representing the state of Punk in the 1960s - a convenient shorthand for some consensus less informed about GaragePsych than us, maybe. But also - not entirely inappropriate. They are an interesting confluence of LA showbiz presentability - also looking sharp. But the material tended to the assertive, aggressive & even a subtly transgressive... Performed with energy if likewise tight & by the book... Remembering that TheBeatles were still in suits then ...& remembering also that before abandoning the suits, they started to get colorful in 1966. As a point in fact...

Guaranteed more than one the stations I listen to today was going to spin some Pistols tunes today... A Local BBC show played their Queenz # earlier...it's a BIG weekend in ye Olde country.
First song I self taught myself on guitar was pretty vacant...no pick required when you use a plastic bread closure tag...eh Kidz!?!

1979 - was probly everyday playing 'Nevermind the Bollocks', NYDolls' debut, 'My Generation' album (Who's 1st) & early Beatles as if they had all come out right then...

...while TheClash have just meant more & more to me - I didn't have them then (except the Black Market Clash 10" for some reason). & it's funny how the piSToLS just slipped away from me - maybe everybody? So it's good to hear them about now... 'Bollocks' was so much of the moment - as it intended to be...
