Interesting fund-raising problem at kkfi.org . Seems their tower site has been sold from under them, and they're raising money to purchase an easement for permanent use of the site.

The original Garden State Plaza was cool up until the end of the 1980s because it was indeed a true "mall" -- that is, you had to walk around outside and enter the stores through their separate entrances. WFMU on Twitter is pretty solid. I mean, YMMV but there was a thing yesterday about a buncha old New Wave Theatre episodes on archive.org that I didn't know about and maybe that's on me but I thought it was pretty swell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm
McGroovey:

I grew up to far from the mall to hang out there. My sisters wanted to, though, and one of them even bought a car without mom & dad's permission so she could do it. It was 20 miles away.

@Bimbus Bambus - Was that the Cat Pyramid shirt? That was one of my favorite WFMU shirts. Sadly I lost it while travelling.

Regarding the Paramus Park Mall, which was close-ish but not my local, I recall a cool store that sold fiber optic lamps. It might have also sold black light posters, though that might have been a different store.

Whew! I am so excited to be back in the fold of this terrific Thursday afternoon staple on WFMU. A cascade of circumstances has prevented me from cozying up to Pseu's unique weekly program for far too long. But now I am here once more and digging the grooves as I once did. Thanks to you, Pseu. Your impeccable taste in new and vintage sounds has not diminished one bit!

@Niall - Cool! I also recall a couple of non-chain record stores near Nanuet though I can't name them. There was Sam Goody somewhere though. Maybe next to Rickles?

Was just reading about Elvis Costello's latest album(he calls it an EP). "The one we should have made when we were 18," EC remarks. All this music comes from the era before his first "official" release, "My Aim Is True." Brinsley Schwartz, Nick Lowe and even Neil Young tunes are well represented. Due out in about a week. Haven't seen a pre-release copy at the station yet, have you Pseu?

Closest mall growing up was Livingston, where there was a Sam Goody. Didn't find much that i liked there except for the expensive Jem import bin. Once i had a vehicle, Montclair had all my record and head needs met - 80s to 90s.
