D4... can you get that anymore? I have a few drops left from the '80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am
coelacanth∅:

spin-clean. $125 and i feel like an idiot for not buying it 30 years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am
Whosondephone:

Been using dawn and a carbon brush. Been curious myself about a record cleaner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am
coelacanth∅:

i still use the discwasher. the original, not the cheap imitation made after it was bought out.
just with distilled water. if i had access to free photoflow i'd put a drop or 2 in it.

but the spin clean is excellent.
  1:21am
rw:

Tell me more coelacanth. Most of my LPs are pretty clean but there are a few could use some work. Or should I just go ahead, order one and find out for myself?
  1:24am
rw:

I've heard good and bad about photoflo, but I feel like it must be more or less like D4 if diluted properly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am
coelacanth∅:

rw it's basically a bin. put distilled water and a capful of their miracle fluid, the brushes and the rollers and spin the records manually. dry them with lint-free cloths before lining them up in a dish drainer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am
Mike Sin:

Spon-clean, huh? Should take the plunge.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am
Tome:

vacuum the record(s) first or you're gonna embed the grit into the grooves with the ie... cleaning brush
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am
Tome:

this one is really headphone candy now !<>! ooo the flashbacks <>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am
coelacanth∅:

rw i've never heard bad things about a drop of photoflo in a cup (or a pint?) of distilled water to recreate D4... but the distilled water does okay.
zerostat sometimes makes a huge difference too..but sometimes nearly none.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am
Whosondephone:

Spin-clean does look nice! I like simplicity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am
Mike Sin:

Thanks for joining in, Tome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am
Tome:

fur shure thank you for the great sounds , this really making me wind down now crazy week!<>!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am
coelacanth∅:

Tome i understand the concept of vacuuming them first but because the cleaning process is wet i think it not much of an issue most of the time, and very impractical for 3-4000 lps and 4-500 45s (and maybe 130 10"ers) i can't afford a fancy automatic record vacuumer, and doing it quickly with a regular vacuum cleaner is way too risky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am
coelacanth∅:

Whosondephone i agree! simple, energy efficient and easy to store.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am
Tome:

yea I understan wholeheartedly I'm a thinking now maybe there's some vacuum attachments for records even !<>!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am

  1:36am
rw:

Actually never mind. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36am
Tome:

I admit to being an audio "snob": back in the day,,now ahh, it all sounds good sometime just listening to old radio even that gets hella great reception even , for that alone I'm glad )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am
coelacanth∅:

i was just wondering that! basically a really soft, lint-free, chemical-free brush.
not sure my vacuum cleaner's strong enough though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38am
coelacanth∅:

yeah and i agree with those who don't mind the campfire effect!
i guess depending on the music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am
Tome:

there was a lotgoing one when d4 was the thing ,, the brush that came with it even from what I recall,, then the "thing": was these record vacuum ,, hella expensive , when a bottle of d4 cost as much then as like 2 records ~~
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am
coelacanth∅:

i got the discwasher kit (D4) for xmas when i was about 10. i've taken decent care of my records ever since.
  1:42am
rw:

Okay, I have a question... why is it that I don't remember records ever having surface noise or skipping on the radio back before digital, while my own LPs always had at least a few crackles and pops even when new.
  1:44am
rw:

Was it just that I wasn't paying close attention? Or was there some technology to reduce that stuff?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am
Mike Sin:

Were the old pro stations just keeping a "refreshed" library of periodically new LPs? They didn't have freaky Mike just bringing his records from home each week!
