  3:06am Hi from Holland:

Aloha!
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:09am happymaan:

Hey ya Abbie, I got a long night at work ahead of me I'm counting on you.
  3:11am larry of lackawack:

Next week you replace Darren's SHOUTY CAPS?
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:12am happymaan:

Well I just googled ram ranch at work.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:12am Paulo AD:

Howdy all.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:13am happymaan:

Hey @paulo.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:14am happymaan:

I'm off to close my eyes in a dark corner until something gets fixed.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:15am Paulo AD:

Hiya Haapyman
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:16am happymaan:

I really don't get Steely Dan
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:16am fred:

I saw Les Filles de Illighadad this week. When they walked down the street to the venue just before the show, people started clapping. They lingered a bit in the street after the show, signing stuff and chatting, and got another round of applause as they left
  3:24am bluecharlie:

Steely "Bland"
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:24am happymaan:

This is so blah.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:25am Paulo AD:

That sounds great fred...unlike steely dan haha
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:26am happymaan:

This song probably looks good on paper.
  3:27am Ciggy:

@Paulo AD - Looking forward to the Wales vs Ukraine match. Thus Sunday?
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:30am Ciggy:

Abby - Aja, as in asia
  3:30am Cee Portslade:

Abbie , am trying to listen but is there any chance you can stop the high-pitched hysterical screeching ? it's difficult to continue to listen when you cant seem to control it ..... am a very long-term listener, from uk .... you're ok when you're just talking , the excitability is very much going to make me leave ....
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:31am Ciggy:

*Abbie.
Sorry
  3:32am bluecharlie:

Yeah, that's Abbie! She's from Mars. That's just how Martians speak! Please proceed, Abbie.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:34am happymaan:

this is better than Steely Dan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am Abbie from Mars:

Hee hee hee @happymaan I agree
  3:36am bluecharlie:

Stop the madness...Definition of insanity . n. mental illness of such a severe nature that a person cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, cannot conduct her/his affairs due to psychosis or is subject to uncontrollable impulsive behavior. 😂🤣🤪
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:36am Paulo AD:

Ciggy - I am indeed. I'm actually going to go out to watch it. Roast and footy, perfect combo
  3:38am Itamar:

Damn Abbie! 99% of people in Israel don't know this song, nor Avishag!
Are you familiar with Inbal Perlmutter?
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:40am Ciggy:

Paulo - Huh?
I had to Google that expression.
I can understand roast, but footy?
And the term combined?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41am Abbie from Mars:

@Itamar oooh I am not yet! Recommend any particular track or album?
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:41am Paulo AD:

HAHA I'll translate. So, i'll got for a sunday roast dinner first, then go and watch the football after in the sports bar
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:42am Ciggy:

Abbie- the line of demarcation for good to great vs bad to horrible Steely Dan songs is the year 1977.
  3:43am dano59:

Aja was a very slick pop album… I like slightly earlier Dan. Still jazzy, and they do like their Cuban rhythms, but also rock’n’roll (with horns or guitars). Memorable, song-alongable lyrics.
… there’s a reason pop music is popular!

to wit:
My Old School
Home at Last
Night By Night (Joe Jackson covered in 2019)
The Royal Scam (the title track)
Dirty Work.

My ex was a big fan since college;
  3:45am Noodles:

Steely Dan have some wonderful songs, and a lot of songs that are just kind of there. I like a lot of the guitar playing. A pretty solid song with great guitar playing, I think, is "Kings".
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:47am happymaan:

My wife had a boyfriend who was a BIG Steely Dan fan, so she's totally fine with me not listening to them.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:50am happymaan:

I'm done with work till more footage comes in, time to go in my dark corner.
  3:50am dano59:

(2/2)
She and I discussed this recently. She had once said there was a real intriguing streak of bizarre and perverse behavior in many of the songs.
What prompted our talk: gave her a copy of the Me, Myself & Irene soundtrack that my friend had found at a Salvo & disliked, discovering he didn’t like covers of Steely Dan as much as he didn’t like Steely Dan.
My take is people can be snobs about this stuff.
I hope this helps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51am Abbie from Mars:

These are helpful insights! Keep em coming
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:52am happymaan:

Abbie, have you seen too many cooks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am Abbie from Mars:

Can't say I have
  3:55am Itamar:

@Abbie from Mars Everything! You'd love her. She had a duet with Nick Cave called "Shivers", they are a match from hell but in a good way 🙃.
You should also try out the album "imballance" on youtube.
We have aaaa-lot-of-wicked-spacey-ambiental-kickass music in Israel, but up to now I only heard noga erez played on this station 🥴
  3:58am dano59:

Also they had a rep as studio perfectionists and didn’t tour. At least not in earnest, until 1993. I remember hearing a live “Boddhisatva” as a ‘70s B-side on a jukebox and really loving it. It’s maybe their rockingest number.
I had Aja on 8-track, and Can’t Buy a Thrill was a fave LP among friends when I was 13.
I tried to call in … but these are the high points
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 3:58am Ciggy:

Google says "roast" (in football / soccer terms) Is used when a player continuously beats another defender.
Well, enjoy the match.
As you know, The winner of this match will pit them in Grouo B along with Iran, my USA and the overrated / over confident England.
  4:02am Itamar:

@Ciggy oh come on, name one american footballer who had a positive year in europe.
  4:06am timinoak:

Hello Abbie From Mars! Congratulations on your upcoming album release!
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:07am Ciggy:

Mckinney?
  4:09am Itamar:

@dano59 just for random knowledge, it is commonly perceived that Steely Dan had a larger and a more direct influence than the Beatles (or any other band) on the most popular and acclaimed musicians in Israel in the 70's-80's.
  4:10am dano59:

People also actively dislike the Bee Gees, and ELO. To me these people are philistines.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:10am Ciggy:

Look I know tournament play is far different than league play. But wouldn't it be refreshing if England played like they do in the EPL?
  4:11am dano59:

@Itamar name a few of those influenced and i'll look into em
  4:13am Itamar:

@Ciggy I really rate this guy but he did not have a good season.
In tournament play I think it comes down mostly to home pressure and mentality, that's probably England's biggest problem.
  4:16am dano59:

Probably Abbie. DuckDuckGo is safer than Google, Yahoo! et al.
  4:19am praya:

stop yelling so much!

otherwise great show :)
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:20am Krys O.:

Hi, Abbie! Wish I could keep hearing you in this time slot, but such are schedule changes. Thanks for brightening Friday mornings and wishing you the best. xxxooo

  4:21am Itamar:

@dano59 Yoni Rechter, Matti Caspi, Shem-Tov Levi, Kaveret, Gary Eckstein.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am _Ike_:

I can relate to what @Cee Portslade said @3:30 and Praya too, but I like the music so much that I keep listening despite the clipping misophonia. Also we listeners probably deserve the extreme abuse, because the other DJs are all too nice these days and *somebody* needs to fill that role of cruelty to us gross filthy hippies who tune in to FMU.
  4:23am praya:

I loive how sterly Dan stresses people - weird enough to be cool or to much of a lame pop music ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23am Abbie from Mars:

@Itamar, really excited about this rec. Just added to my to-listen list! Also lol at the emoji after Noga Erez
  4:23am praya:

Interesting production sometines and some sings stuck In head for sure.I guess they are genius firm Mars
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23am Abbie from Mars:

@timinoak thank you so much!!! I'm so excited for people to hear what I've been working on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25am Abbie from Mars:

@Krys, that's really kind of you <3 thank you! There are certainly things I will miss about the Friday mornings!
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:26am fred:

@Ike: With Professor Dum Dum out, someone has to give those mics a workout to get the dust off
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:26am Paulo AD:

I hate filling in bloody application forms
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28am Abbie from Mars:

Hahaha, the clipping complaint reminds me of this show I was at with Saltzshaker and Olivia -- some very polished sounding indie rock band accidentally triggered some feedback and they all winced -- meanwhile, Saltzshaker was like "imagine being uncomfortable with feedback!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29am _Ike_:

Though you *could* do what Todd-a-phonic used to do when he yelled a lot and stand back from the mic while yelling… but OTOH, we don’t deserve such leniency since we are grodey punk-ass weasel fools.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:32am fred:

@Abbie: Time for my commute... Thanks for the fantastic shows (my odds of being up 6-9am on Sundays are not good)
  4:32am Itamar:

@dano59 I think it really came down to, as you said, their studio perfectionalism. Their records were often played in studios in an attempt to emulate their sound, as they were sonically among the best, if not the. I also believe that since most of the Israeli musicians from that period came from homes with classical music backgrounds, which complied with steely dan's more refined and structuralized style.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:33am Ciggy:

@_Ike_ which one of us are we:
grodey punk-ass weasel fools.
and / or
gross filthy hippies who tune in to FMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34am Abbie from Mars:

Aww thanks @fred. Will miss seeing you in the chat! Have a great summer :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37am _Ike_:

@Ciggy, definitely one of those two, or wretched sleazy sonic slimeballs. Or all three.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:39am Ciggy:

I'll go with, grodey punk-ass weasel fool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am _Ike_:

Or trashy tatted rabid rock’n’roll ruffians, but those mainly listen to Suzy Hotrod and Paul Bruno.
Avatar 👽 Swag For Life Member 4:41am Ciggy:

Good night.
Have a great summer Abbie.
