A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

GINC was the name of the group, Mr. Fab:

From 1964 up to their eventual disbandment in 1980, Morricone was part of Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza (G.I.N.C.), a group of composers who performed and recorded avant-garde free improvisations. The Rome-based avant-garde ensemble was dedicated to the development of improvisation and new music methods. The ensemble functioned as a laboratory of sorts, working with anti-musical systems and sound techniques in an attempt to redefine the new music ensemble and explore "New Consonance".[31]

Known as "The Group" or "Il Gruppo", they released seven albums across the Deutsche Grammophon, RCA, and Cramps labels: Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza (1966), The Private Sea of Dreams (1967), Improvisationen (1968), The Feedback (1970), Improvvisazioni a Formazioni Variate (1973), Nuova Consonanza (1975), and Musica su Schemi (1976). Perhaps the most famous of these is their album entitled The Feed-back, which combines free jazz and avant-garde classical music with funk; the album frequently is sampled by hip hop DJs and is considered to be one of the most collectable records in existence, often fetching more than $1,000 at auction.[32]

'Trane - Reminds me of the Great Free Jazz Revival of the '90s: public/college radio playing Ornette, Pharoah Sanders, all the Sun Ra reissues, Greg Ginn and SST getting all jazzy/noisy, cheerleading by Sonic Youth. I think it had to do with that fact that a lot of us went from punk to hardcore, rap to gangsta, and it was like: where can we go now? What's beyond hardcore? I know I was all in.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:57pm

There is a "planet" release by Instagon, for every planet in the solar system. And then a final disc, that's only available in a boxed set, that is called "The Planets," with material not on the other discs. A good set to get, if you like this kind of thing.

our own DJ Shangri-La just DJed an event that featured Man Or AstoMan live, so I guess they're still around and out there touring.

Because of this album art, when I was a kiddo I used to think the full song title was "Telstar the Lonely Bull" -- I didn't realize it was two hits for the price of one! https://www.discogs.com/master/112742-The-Ventures-The-Ventures-Play-TelstarLonely-Bull/image/SW1hZ2U6MTc0MTA5OTM=

Mr. Fab, goofy kids that we were decades ago, we'd call them Man or Astroturf which, sadly, has stuck with me to this day.

Thanks for the great show, Austin, and the great chat, everyone! Good night!

Thanks Austin! I feel well prepared for the inevitable Alien Invasion. Though it won't come from Outer Space, but the Ultra Right, right here on Earth.
