They wouldn't give you information you could use to overthrow them with. And if you show independence, you have been identified as such. Art school was good because of the availability of facilities. University professors will never admit Truth, when they do they are quickly destroyed.

Anyway, it was like the artists were providing charity food and entertainment to the city, which is kinda backward. Real art practice and money are unrelated.

It is a steep sacrifice for an artist to take that route, once you buy-in to it you are on the hook to produce only 'acceptable' work. Otherwise your cut loose and destroyed. They wouldn't give you information you could use to overthrow them with. And if you show independence, you have been identified as such. Art school was good because of the availability of facilities. It is a steep sacrifice for an artist to take that route, once you buy-in to it you are on the hook to produce only 'acceptable' work. Otherwise your cut loose and destroyed.
