Now known as Flowers by Frankie but still going strong

Gary:

Wow, headcleaner, impressive 411!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
Sam Segal:

As long as there are flowers available at 3240 E Tremont Ave, I don't care if they're Frankie's for Meskers'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm
Sam Segal:

And hello, Gary and Headcleaner!

Heya Sammy.

Carmichael! Nice to see ya!

Hi Sam and Fawlty Towers Horses. Am listening. Will be away from the playlist for a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm
Sam Segal:

Come and go as you please, WR! Glad to know your ears are present.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm

this is a great trio!
heard a track from this (the sly stone cover) recently somewhere, D:O radio maybe?
what’s up folks!

Heyo. Turning in soon, but wanted to say hi and goodnight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm
Sam Segal:

Good evening and good night, Threemoons!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome, zzz! I love the Sly Stone cover as well. Thought about playing that one. Seems like something Jeff G. would've been hip to before me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
zzz:

was such a killer groove/rhythm section on that david murray trio. hamid drake is king. i think he must be playing right now at the vision fest at roulette- in two trios tonight (with william parker/cooper-moore and ned rothenberg/sylvie courvoisier)

hoping to head out to the vision fest tommorrow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm
Sam Segal:

Wow, those both sound like great trios. Wish I could've caught them live. I saw Hamid Drake at the Vision Festival several years ago playing with William Parker and Peter Brotzmann.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
zzz:

@headcleaner, are you a Bronxite?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
zzz:

nice Sam, that trio would be thrilling to see live. i have a disc of them, “never too late but always too early”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm
Sam Segal:

@zzz, you may have noticed all my playlist images over the past several weeks have been from the Bronx. There's something about the images from BX from that period that I find so captivating.

Hi Sam; the rest of you-Pony Up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm

i walked into meskers florist looking for clown-face orchids and the guy, who had an usually big nose (but pretty ears), offered me a room. i didn't need a room but it was tempting.
no clown-face orchids, no monkey-face orchids, no tiger-face orchids...the only orchids there were naked-man orchids.
he was champing at the bit while i stalled, waiting for an angel-face orchid to come and give me guidance.
finally he threw a vase at me. not a stable guy. i galloped on outa there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm

Hello, Horse Doctor!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm

Coel! The bigger the nose, the prettier ears!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm

The prettier THE ears, that is...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
coelacanth∅:

is that how that saying goes??!

good evening Sam and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm

If a horse uses that much product in their mane, I'd question the rating of the lodging. Could be a reverse-merger story, milk that Michelin star 'til the public finds out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
Sam Segal:

Good evening, drowsy! I'm with you. I steer clear of equine greasers whenever possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm

very early-zorn vibes on this. cool stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm

like this guy? external-content.duckduckgo.com...
...he does look like a total poseur; but seriously, look at that hair. and those ears!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Sam Segal:

And those nostrils!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
coelacanth∅:

extraordinary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm

I'm getting an early Axel Rose vibe. Can't blame him, looks like he deserved better padding/saddle fit at the whithers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm
coelacanth∅:

...but, i guess i'm just not a nose guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm

@zzz, can definitely here the whacked-out early Zorn in that Yoshihide / Stone piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm

mu-Ziq!

that was a good track. Paradinas going back in time for that one.

Dean! Once a flower shop, always (or at least sometimes) a flower shop!
  10:53pm
headcleaner:

Well, especially if you're next door to (and surrounded by) a cemetery
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm

whoa is this the best mccartney track might just be
  10:56pm
Dean:

I live behind (or it lives behind me?) a funeral home. Great neighbors!

Was the site of Glenn Spearman's tribute.
  11:03pm
headcleaner:

I lived next door to a funeral home at one point, and really got to dig it for a while. Until I found that that noisy AC unit on top was really a ventilation unit for an ... extra special service that many inner city funeral homes perform.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm
doctorjazz:

This Nagoya Guitars is lovely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Sam Segal:

Some friends of mine live above a liquor store and next door to a cemetery. Across the street, they've got a gas station and an autobody shop that specializes in installing shockingly loud car stereos. The guys at the autobody shop like to hang out and test the limits of their stereos...not sure how that plays with any mourners at the cemetery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Sam Segal:

Glad you dig it, Doc. It is a Steve Reich composition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
drowsy:

yeah this is like if Hella was chill. I mean this in the best way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
doctorjazz:

Sounds like a Reich piece, somewhat minimal, but some movement!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
doctorjazz:

(Not that I'm a Reich expert by any means...)
  11:11pm
headcleaner:

Meanwhile the booze, the junk food on sale at the gas station, and the sleep-depriving car stereo volume are all driving the local residents toward early eligibility for a plot at the cemetery. So it's a synergistic cycle.
  11:11pm
Dean:

Also behind us, but to the north a house or so, an important music venue that has been silent since March 2020. They're preparing to reopen, which excites me, because we are used to six nights a week of loud music wafting through our bedroom window. Sly & Robbie...holy moly that was loud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm
Sam Segal:

Steve Reich, like if Hella was chill. This tracks with me!
Avatar 11:12pm

I just woke from an 85 minute nap and thought I was listening to Lali Puna....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
zzz:

agree @doctorjazz, def Reich sound. he has a piece called Nagoya Marimbas that is similar. maybe a take off in thay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
Sam Segal:

Welcome to consciousness, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
doctorjazz:

Sly and Robbie, Dean? Sounds worth not sleeping for!
  11:16pm
headcleaner:

Just made myself a risotto di farro (risotto w/ farro instead of arborio rice), primavera style (with carrot, tomatoes, paprika, peas) that was shockingly easy to make, using some orange wine that was good quality but somehow too raw for my taste (so I needed to start using it somehow). And which is pairing quite nicely with the current set, thank you.
  11:17pm
Dean:

I stood downstairs in our dining area after the show started. Robbie's bass was right there in the room with me. Stunning.

Love this Kikuchi.

I've had some delightful orange wines. But lately, Greek whites do the trick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
drowsy:

headcleaner that sounds delicious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
doctorjazz:

The cemetery a block or so from my house is the final resting place of Whitney Houston (sometimes gets visitors)
Sunrise is cool! Sounds like an ECM recording.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
Sam Segal:

I just learned about orange wine fairly recently. My girlfriend hipped me to it. Tasty stuff.
  11:20pm
headcleaner:

Père Lachaise can in fact be a sublime experience as long as you avoid the vicinity of you-know-who
  11:20pm
Dean:

I've only visited a cemetery, Pere Lachaise, once. To visit Abelard & Heloise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm
doctorjazz:

Not familiar with Mark Hollis, very cool track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm
Sam Segal:

You may have heard of Mark Hollis as the leader of the English rock group Talk Talk, Doc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
drowsy:

Super nice show, Sam. Thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
doctorjazz:

Accordion?
getting better!
Googled Hollis-passed away in 2019, interesting mix of sounds on this.
  11:23pm
headcleaner:

My first visit there was to visit A & H also, Dean. So I guess that that (and the fact that we posted simultaneously about that place) means we are entwined in a certain sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm
Sam Segal:

Thanks for being here to listen to it, drowsy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm
doctorjazz:

That's a harmonica, most certainly, still think there's an accordion in there.
  11:24pm
Dean:

Agreed, headcleaner. Some years ago I read quite a bit of and about Abelard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
doctorjazz:

(Just know Talk Talk by their name, don't know the music). (another hole to fall into I'm sure)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm

Killing it, Sam, loving these sets!
Avatar 11:39pm
northguineahills:

hmmm, can't clicky star any more toons,,,,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Sam Segal:

Thank you, Doc! This band Fly is pretty new to me. I've dug Mark Turner for awhile, but never heard him in this group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Sam Segal:

Please tell me they haven't introduced a clicky star limit in an effort to tamp down on inflation...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
zzz:

nice bass tone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
doctorjazz:

Mark Turner is someone I've always thought I should like more than I do-this may change that
(sound courtesy of ECM)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
Sam Segal:

Larry Grenadier is great.
  11:42pm
headcleaner:

Between these sets, the orange wine, and memories of visiting Père Lachaise with a friend in the spring of '96 I think can say I'm in a pretty good spot, Sam. Tomorrow morning I may not be (due to the wine, not your sets) but tomorrow's a different day, as they say.
  11:42pm
headcleaner:

(Assuming I wake up, that is)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Sam Segal:

If you don't wake up, headcleaner, I know a great cemetery in Bushwick/Cypress Hills where you'll always have bass-heavy Latin dance music to listen to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
zzz:

was at the vision fest last night for the wadada leo smith lifetime achievement show. Wadada dedicated the last piece to keith jarrett. told the story of being approached by manfred eicher (ECM) to do a first recording back in the day and eicher asked him to play with jarrett, and Smith refused. then he asked Eicher if he could record with Jack Dejohnette, and eicher refused.
  11:46pm
headcleaner:

That sounds like exactly my spot, Sam. Either way, sweet dreams
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
doctorjazz:

Was hoping to get to some of the Vision Fest, but it's looking like i will likely miss it this year. Looks like some great lineups!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm
doctorjazz:

(the name of this label seems to be what headcleaner will likely need tomorrow morning, Piano and Coffee...)
Avatar 11:54pm
northguineahills:

Thanks, sam. amazing set,,,,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
doctorjazz:

Getting to the end of the road, Sam, loved the show, thanks!
(the trouble with clicky-starring is once I start, I can star almost every song on the show, which doesn't help later so I just click on the whole show at the top).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm
Sam Segal:

Thank you for being amongst the horseless this evening, everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm
doctorjazz:

This Richter interpretation is softer than I'm used to, very nice...
  11:58pm
headcleaner:

To have been a mite in the inner ear of someone in the room as this was recorded ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58pm
doctorjazz:

(again, no expert here, Dean could help, but seems more delicate than most I've heard).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am

most (all?) spiders cannot hear. that may apply to mites also!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am
zzz:

lovely
thanks for a wonderful show!
  12:02am
headcleaner:

Oh but they do "hear", coel∅ -- via the vibrations over the webs they spin. One imagines that mites might also perceive vibrational patterns, in a certain way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am
