Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hello Dahlings!!!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:05pm WR:

Mice go on the list of vermin with rats and roaches.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:07pm WR:

We have more mice than roaches at our place. Kill several every season. End of subject.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:16pm WR:

Very tasty Hank Jones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi doctorjazz and WR!!!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hello! We have had a terrible time with clothes moths that were finally traced to a wool rug. It's now in the front yard awaiting disposal.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:24pm doctorjazz:

Branford! The "hip" Marsalis! (have this album somewhere)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi Lizzie!! Glad you solved your moth problem :0
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:42pm WR:

From the same neighborhood as show tunes.
  7:42pm Antonia:

Kind of like the relationship between Katherine Hepburn character and Gig (?) Young in "Desk Set"--she did his math calculations and maybe wrote things for him?
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:50pm WR:

"Le grand amour" seems such a grandiose title but it was a lovely song.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:55pm WR:

My loss that I didn't get all of the A&M/CTI albums when they came out.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 7:58pm WR:

Great Betty Carter album cover!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:00pm doctorjazz:

Nether lived Betty Carter (did get to see her once), nice track, though.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:00pm doctorjazz:

*never loved...
Avatar 8:16pm HyperDose:

This programme is divine
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:16pm doctorjazz:

Love this Tarras, but trying to get the connection to the show (there was a lot of Yiddish Theater early in the 1900's, I know...)
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:17pm WR:

Enjoying the show tune adjacent music exploration.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm doctorjazz:

Missed the between sets comments (eating dinner with the show on), this Orquesta Tipica and the Tarras are a nice pair.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm WR:

That was The Bagelman Sisters singing A Vaibele A Tsnien. Reading to find out why that klezmer compilation is credited to Dave Tarras.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:26pm doctorjazz:

And, the Bagelman Sisters changed their names to The Barry Sisters; never heard of the Bagelman's, but my mom had and loved Barry Sisters' records.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:27pm WR:

Interesting, The Bagelman Sisters soon became known as The Barry Sisters.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:28pm WR:

Yeah, The Barry Sisters were fairly successful.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:33pm doctorjazz:

I'm guessing crediting it (and releasing it on) a Dave Tarras collection was strictly marketing. Dave Tarras in a creator and star of early Klezmer music; most people haven't heard of the Bagelman Sisters (and I heard them as the Barry sisters, at least their albums, but had no clue). People exploring early Klezmer would be looking/listening to Tarras (Andy Statman, a current Bluegrass turned Klezmer musician, was very influenced by Tarras). Record companits do this, try to use the famous artist to sell a recording they weren't the star on (for instance, the Isley Brothers had Jimi Hendrix play with them at some point, and albums have been released with his name prominent).
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm the late diciassette:

hello! I'm alive, just late
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm doctorjazz:

Thank Goodness, diclassette! Got us nervous!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm WR:

Doc! Just noticed your updated avatar wearing the WFMU kitchen swag. Nice.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:46pm doctorjazz:

Swag just came, love it!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:47pm doctorjazz:

(Cooked my 1st meal in it tonight, made everything taste a whole lot better)
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:52pm WR:

My swag hasn't arrived yet. Only remember a couple of my choices, when it arrives it will be like Christmas in July or August or whenever.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:53pm doctorjazz:

I think lots of it has been sent out, hopefully you get it soon.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm doctorjazz:

Near the end, thanks for the great show, Bronwyn!
Laters, all!
  8:57pm Listener Gregory:

I’m even later than @diciassette! Sorry! On the positive side, I didn’t have the chance to load up the comment board w misinformation.
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:57pm doctorjazz:

LG! Glad to see you, Hi and Bye!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:57pm diciassette:

LG, think quickly! We can come up with something!
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 8:58pm WR:

Loving the Christopher Lloyd Bilbao Song! Thank you!
  9:00pm Listener Gregory:

The Bilbao song was originally sung by Bilbo Baggins. That is my best misinformation on short notice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Correct. That is revealed in the Silmarillion
Avatar 🎭 Swag For Life Member 9:01pm diciassette:

Rad! Thanks LG, thanks Bronwyn
  9:02pm Listener Gregory:

Great show, Bronwyn! Especially the last 8 minutes, which I heard. I’ll catch up on the archives.
