Horslips - The Man Who Built America Lyrics:

See him driving those golden nails
that hold together the silver bars
That one day gonna take us to the stars
cos he's the man who built America
See him walking the golden wire
a million miles from his starting place
and see the world reflected in his face
cos he's the man who built America
You coloured kids on the border line
and all you golden children of the sun
He's father to you each and everyone
cos he's the man who built America

Building them up, your dreams
tell me, who's gonna knock them down
Not him, not the man who built America

In every precinct a golden mile
in every doorway stands heart's desire
but see him crouching running through the fire
cos he's the man who built America
You kill the rich and you con the poor
You stalk the streets with your 45's
but no-one's going to take the man alive
cos he's the man who built America

See How We Are is my only vinyl copy of this.
I saw Los Lobos open a July 4 set with this (and previous act John Wesley Harding joining in!) on the first Furthur Festival tour. Sadly no one did "U.S. Blues" that day, but we kept hoping during Johnnie Johnson's set.

I noticed a lot of references to the beauty and wonders of the Finger Lakes/Ithaca area here in the ACCU today. I briefly spent some time there in graduate study at Cornell University. But more toward the interests of WFMU listeners, I remind you all that Ithaca College, known for its music, theater and arts programs, is the alma mater of Velvrt Underground drummer Maureen Tucker, Disney chief Robert Iger, "The Love Boat" captain, Gavin McCloud, legendary jazz pianist Bill Evans's bassist, Scott LaFaro and Frank Zappa's longtime premier percussionist, Ruth Underwood. "The Twilight Zone's" Rod Serling taught there as well. He is buried in nearby Interlaken. Love the area. So serenely beautiful and inspiring.

WebHenry - to be entirely forthcoming - the Candy-O album was crucial to our HighSchool dope smoking period. Trading Panama Red & Acapulco Gold off each other for variety - flat on one's back so high just twitching with the synthesizer boops. Said red dope (more psychedelic than the heavy gold) - Vargas' ravishing redhead painting - & that finely crafted PowerPop with dissociative Lyrics & Electronic accents will forever be as one in my mind.
