When we got Married, Marla and I requested that the DJ play mostly Nuggets stuff between our specific dance song selections, and the cues for the ceremony. Our DJ RULED! And, they are still on the radio; a DJ who's been on since the late 70's, my friend Vicky. (DJ Victrola, out here.)

	👻 9:29pm Austin Rich: Due to their excellent (and massive) catalog, there's a Ramones song for every occasion.
	👻 9:32pm Austin Rich: For years, this Minutemen album was my "go-to" album. I like all their records, but I REALLY love Double Nickels.
	9:35pm Mr Fab: Double Nickels on the Dime desert-island disk for sure. it's got a little bit of whatever you like. As one critic said at the time, "from punk to funk, from folk to polka." (slight exaggeration)
	👻 9:36pm Austin Rich: And well-chosen covers, too. You get a lot of bang for your buck on that one.
	👻 9:36pm Austin Rich: A lot of people love to argue the "Beatles / Stones" line. Hands down, it's The Who, for me. At least until Keith Moon checked out.
	👻 9:37pm Austin Rich: Comparing Bass Players alone, you gotta pick The Who.
	👻 9:39pm Austin Rich: The story of his death is, without a doubt, one of the most rock and roll deaths in history: "Entwistle died in Room 658 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Paradise, Nevada, on 27 June 2002, one day before the scheduled first show of the Who's 2002 United States tour. He was 57 years old. Entwistle had gone to bed that night with Alycen Rowse, a local stripper and groupie, who awoke the next morning to find Entwistle cold and unresponsive. The Clark County medical examiner determined that his death was due to a heart attack induced by an undetermined amount of cocaine. Entwistle already had severe heart disease and usually smoked 20 cigarettes a day."

	9:42pm Scott67: I was hooked on the TV Series! I still have all my Bubble Gun Cards from it.

	9:45pm Mr Fab: Hall Of The Mountain King demonstrating the surf influence on The Who, courtesy of surf fanatic keith Moon, who basically played "Wipeout" on every song. That influence really set them apart from all the other blues-based British bands.
	👻 9:46pm Austin Rich: There's something about that era of trading cards and pop culture that I'm a sucker for. It's been said by more clever wags than I, but when the Moon set on The Who, they were never the same. I suspect that surf influence is probably why I love them so much.

	👻 9:48pm Austin Rich: I recommend the Electric Prunes, Aitch. They are an underrated, and often overlooked psyche band from the 60's. Really good!
	9:49pm Pauly from Clifton: You don't see much quicksand in TV or movies these days that I know of.
	👻 9:49pm Austin Rich: Here's where I shrug and say, "Hey, I loved Dinosaur Jr. in High School. It's nostalgic for me!"

	👻 9:50pm Austin Rich: Yeah, I think Quicksand is purely a 1980-or-older phenomena. This one is for you, Heather!

	👻 9:51pm Austin Rich: I'll have to check the source on that... I think it should have sounded a little more pristine.
	9:52pm Heather: Fabulous! I heard the Andy Warhol into and was, like, wait what?? Love it and thank you so much!! The original of this had quite an effect on middle school me, for sure.
	👻 9:53pm Austin Rich: I knew this version first, because Dinosaur was super popular when we were in High School. (At least, on this coast.) But soon enough I connected the dots to the Bowie version. This is a pretty decent, but unique cover, I think.
	9:53pm Mr Fab: Quicksand, that's funny. We have so many cop/crime and sci-fi shows, not so much old-fashioned adventure TV anymore. Today's shows should bring back those tropes. Imagine a detective from "Law and Order" getting stuck in quicksand.
	👻 9:54pm Austin Rich: I was just thinking about writing a script where a modern-day set of characters has to navigate 70's TV show tropes.
	👻 9:56pm Austin Rich: The older I get, the more I'm drawn to early Eno stuff. I don't think I got it when I was younger, but now... it really speaks to me.
	9:57pm Mr Fab: That's funny, cuz I discovered Eno and a teen as was OBSESSED. Like we were discussing "My Life In The Bush of Ghosts" the other day - one I ran out and bought with my after-school allowance.

	👻 9:59pm Austin Rich: I feel like I read an essay in college about Quicksand, and how it seemed like an apt analogy for the US problem in Nuclear War. I can't find it right now, but it was pretty interesting. I find everything backwards. I'm probably gonna find a love of Bowie when I'm 70.
	👻 9:59pm Austin Rich: I've had this "Hockey Monkey" song stuck in my head for weeks now. Been trying to fit it in somewhere... and finally, I did it!
	10:01pm Heather: 70 isn't too late and his music will always hold up. Except Tin Machine, alas. Tin Machine didn't hold up much when it was new but, hey, he was trying stuff out.

	👻 10:02pm Austin Rich: I probably listen to Nomeansno a couple times a month. They made a HUGE impact on me, and I saw them a LOT back in the day. They really hold up, upon repeated listens. (To me.)

	10:02pm Mr Fab: Wouldn't that be great, Heather? Like "Law and Order" detectives are chasing a suspect thru Central Park, and Ice T falls in quicksand. Mariska Hargitay trips and falls, someone runs back to get her, she says, No! Go on without me!" "sentient vines" YEAH! Walter White running from the drug cartel is saved when vines grab the bad guys.
	👻 10:03pm Austin Rich: Heather and I have already discovered that she should write most sitcoms. But I think Mr. Fab and Heather should work on a new drama! "Sheena's Jungle Room: The Show!"
	👻 10:04pm Austin Rich: Buchanan & Goodman, who essentially invented sampling before anyone had even considered it.
	10:04pm Heather: Mr Fab, I hope banana peels feature heavily??
	👻 10:05pm Austin Rich: Mostly in the scenes when the camera cuts to the all-monkey band, who plays the interstitial music.
	👻 10:07pm Austin Rich: I song from only 11 year ago?! How did that happen... See! I do like some modern music...
	10:08pm Heather: Can we also get some real boxy robots and bumbling criminals in monster suits? Guest appearance from The Globetrotters, perhaps? Or am I getting too Scooby-Doo?
	👻 10:09pm Austin Rich: Hmmmmmm. The Globetrotters might be too goofy. But I think Bea Arthur will be in a few episodes, for sure.
	10:10pm Mr Fab: Sure...and pie fights!
	👻 10:11pm Austin Rich: I suspect most episodes end in a pie fight... and someone dressed a Charlie Chaplin's Tramp wanders through, for some reason? (Probably Maria from Sesame Street, in her Tramp outfit.)
	👻 10:11pm Austin Rich: I will do just about anything to find an excuse to fit in a Fats Waller song. I think The Weatherman and I have that in common.
	10:12pm Heather: Ahem. Trick bball wizards The Globetrotters are too goofy?! Nevarrr!! Maybe the crime can take place at a basketball game one ep to shoehorn em in.

	10:13pm Mr Fab: Like a crime at a nightclub means Wayne Newton gets to sing, and maybe even help chase and fight the bad guys.

	👻 10:15pm Austin Rich: One thing I feel very lucky to have experienced: I got to see at least seven or eight Dead Moon shows, before Fred and Andrew passed away. They were ALWAYS amazing, and Toody was the best! She talked to me once after a show, sold me some records and a t-shirt. They were the most fun, and I miss them dearly.

	👻 10:31pm Austin Rich: While often overlooked, in favor of his early material, I find "Doc At The Radar Station" and "Ice Cream For Crow" to be excellent records by the Captain. You have to sort of triangulate it in the context of late 70's / early 80's music... he was still VERY outside of what was popular, but doing AMAZING stuff.
	10:33pm Scott67: Still got my GI Joe, Lone Ranger & Tonto. & bits from Big Jim, Action Jackson, etc. A couple of Micronauts & all my Star Wars Figures. But can't find Spiderman.

	10:37pm Mr. X: Zoot Horn Rollo (Bill Harkleroad) from Beefhearts band wound up living in Eugene, a few blocks from where I lived at the time.
	👻 10:38pm Austin Rich: This is one benefit of having not lived though those albums in real-time: I easily skipped them. Zoot Horn Rollo gives guitar lessons, last I checked. A friend of mine took a few, even. (But I don't think he answers to Zoot Horn anymore.)

Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

	👻 9:39pm Austin Rich: The story of his death is, without a doubt, one of the most rock and roll deaths in history: "Entwistle died in Room 658 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Paradise, Nevada, on 27 June 2002, one day before the scheduled first show of the Who's 2002 United States tour. He was 57 years old. Entwistle had gone to bed that night with Alycen Rowse, a local stripper and groupie, who awoke the next morning to find Entwistle cold and unresponsive. The Clark County medical examiner determined that his death was due to a heart attack induced by an undetermined amount of cocaine. Entwistle already had severe heart disease and usually smoked 20 cigarettes a day."

	9:45pm Mr Fab: Hall Of The Mountain King demonstrating the surf influence on The Who, courtesy of surf fanatic keith Moon, who basically played "Wipeout" on every song. That influence really set them apart from all the other blues-based British bands.
	👻 9:46pm Austin Rich: There's something about that era of trading cards and pop culture that I'm a sucker for. It's been said by more clever wags than I, but when the Moon set on The Who, they were never the same. I suspect that surf influence is probably why I love them so much.

	9:53pm Mr Fab: Quicksand, that's funny. We have so many cop/crime and sci-fi shows, not so much old-fashioned adventure TV anymore. Today's shows should bring back those tropes. Imagine a detective from "Law and Order" getting stuck in quicksand.

They were ALWAYS amazing, and Toody was the best! She talked to me once after a show, sold me some records and a t-shirt. They were the most fun, and I miss them dearly.

You have to sort of triangulate it in the context of late 70's / early 80's music... he was still VERY outside of what was popular, but doing AMAZING stuff.
