Favoriting July 11, 2022: Station Manager Ken guest hosts Techtonic tonight

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Here are some recent "Text to Image" experiments performed by WFMU DJ Bryce, using the MidJourney AI platform.

We'll be chatting with Bryce at 640pm on tonight's show.
I have no idea which text prompts Bryce used to generate these first two gorgeous monstrosities:

For these next two, the text prompt was "WFMU"

Bryce generated these next two by typing "WFMU Station Manager" into MidJourney:

@Dean funny you should notice that - in the late80s/early 90s, Kostabi was going to phone in his bit on an art panel, and I simulated him with cheezy interactive Amiga animations, propping a monitor in his chair.

I recall reading a lengthy profile of Minsky in New Yorker, late '70s or thereabouts. I came away thinking, "This guy's a doofus." To some extent, my uninformed opinion was vindicated, because early efforts at AI proved to have mistaken its direction.

Kostabi: I knew him in Whittier in the late '70s. I even have his very first publication, a book of line drawings. Later I visited his atelier in NYC, where I reminded him and his brother (he of Youth Gone Made) of our many interactions in the record store where I worked. Mark gave me a bunch of his later books to donate to the public library where I worked. He also gave me his first CD, a recital of his music on solo piano.
