Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Uncle Mike, never saw Peter Case during his Nerves days, but caught him a couple of times as the leader of the Plimsouls. KROQ in LA was my conduit for some scintillating music during the 80s. Case's later solo work reminds me a bit of the path that John Doe of X has followed.

@Mr. Oxford. Both Parker and Costello shared a similar vocal timbre back in the 80s, but what I think you are referring to is that edge of anger that a number of those "new wave" singers brought to their early recordings. I would throw Joe Jackson in with Parker and Costello as well.

I've heard Parker live a few times. In concert he expresses a degree of resentment about the comparison, not because it isn't true, but because he was doing it before EC made his appearance. Tarkio is the third album by Brewer & Shipley. Released in 1970, the album (also known as Tarkio Road, as that title was printed on the labels of original pressings of the LP and pre-recorded tapes) yielded the hit singles "One Toke Over the Line" and "Tarkio Road.""

Eydie Gorme, a nice Italian-American girl from the Bronx, really had a way with Latin sounds. Her album with Mexico's Trio Los Panchos is fantastic and should be in every record collection. A moment I remember was on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show where she, along with husband Steve Lawrence, sang a duet right from their guest chairs. It was a song titled "The Nicest Thing Two People Can Do" and yes, they were singing about THAT thing. But the lyrics were definitely PG, and barely that. TV was much more chaste in those days.

Hey, Evan "Funk" Davies! Good to see you here today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Uncle Michael:

Doc, you missed my announcement. I'm having David Gans on the show next week.
  1:54pm
Gerry from Miami:

Uncle Michael, I just read a great interview with Lido Pimienta. I won't spoil it for anyone, but almost all your listeners should find it very interesting. No, she was never Miss Colombia, but she gives a detailed explanation about the choice of her album title. Just juicy hint---it involves the well-known comedian and TV personality host, Steve Harvey. Find it at getinherears.com. Look for Lida Pimienta Interview.
  1:55pm
Gerry from Miami:

That's LIDO, not Lida. Sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm
Uncle Michael:

is the mamas and papas streaming?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
StringOFperils:

Yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm
Uncle Michael:

The streaming meters are dead here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm
efd:

yeah I just heard some Thurl Ravenscroft-sounding baritone, and now some light flute music
  1:58pm
Mr. Oxford:

@Gerry, I am guessing it has something to do with Steve Harvey and his famous confusion moment at 2015 Miss Universe?
  1:58pm
dan:

This does not sound like The Mamas And The Papas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
efd:

I'm sure the people singing are somebody's mamas and papas, but not THE Mamas and Papas.
  1:59pm
Gerry from Miami:

Yes, Mr. Oxford.

A gremlin has crawled through the wires of the Give the Drummer stream and put the kibosh on Uncle Michael's show. What gives?

Hope someone has notified Staysh.

Gerry from Miami:

Same here, efd. All OK now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm

AFterward for me, oddly...there were two brief level-reductions during Fairport, and then uninterrupted 'unpopular' Mamas and Papas album selection...all the blurberries

What was that song that sounded like Paul Robeson
  2:09pm
dan:

@Aly Dukes
Some song that sounded like Paul Robeson
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm
efd:

@Aly that wasn't an Uncle Michael selection; it was the defaiult Drummer music stream kicking in when the connection between Lawrence KS and Drummer Stream HQ was temporarily lost.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm
Aly Dukes:

Ah I see. Anyway to ID the default track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Uncle Michael:

I don't know, Aly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
efd:

@Aly you could try emailing Doug using the form on this page: wfmu.org...
Not sure if maybe there's some log of what got played, but if there is he would know.

@Aly Dukes. If you ever have problems recognizing a particular record being played, you can always pull out your SHAZAM! app. No guarantee, but it just might be in their digital storage.

prog-rejection
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
efd:

assuming Public Foot The Roman is what could loosely be described as "prog"
  2:27pm
Dean:

Once again, PFtR reminds me of a German prog-ish band I admire, Epitaph.
  2:28pm
Dean:

IIRC, FPtR took its name, like Hatfield & the North, from a street or landmark sign.
  2:29pm
Dean:

That last comment was *not* referring to Fublic Poot the Roman.
