@Doug - it may well be my own typo (I am good at them) - but the credits "Bheki Msekulu" should read Mseleku .. more well known as a pianist .. but he could apprently play many instruments, and the monster that he was he sometimes played piano and saxophone together at the same time

Chris A, that's apt. Hopefully, Doug will produce some slow drags and stop-time solos to simulate the uphills on my way home. Speaking of which, it's time for me to trail in the good doctor's toestraps and get on the bike for a bit. Got to get the miles if I want to wear the smiles. There are few musician's I am more devoted to than the late, lamented Mike Osborne. At the height of his genius and incendiary powers, he fell right off a cliff of drug damage and mental health imbalance. We lost him. Spent the rest of his life in an assisted living facility with no recollection that he had ever been at the mountaintop of human creative achievement.

Baba, what I remember is this: I was at the flea market and someone handed me a copy of MAD with a particularly gruesome Christmas themed cover. They told me in a very solemn voice that I had to do a report - to who I'm not sure. I thought to myself, I don't want this responsibility. I felt extremely put upon.

Doug, I had a collection that ran from 1965 to 1970. I stopped collecting MAD when I discovered ZAP and all the variant strains from the underground. My collection of MAD along with SLASH was in a crate under our back stairs during the torrential rains of 1979. All of it, ruined.

I had an assortment of Mad magazine that deteriorated over the years, an issue or two of Playboy (one of which I marked up with editorial commentary for a high school English assignment), all the early issues of Flipside and Slash, all of which I tossed in the '80s. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Music City was on Alcatraz in south Berkeley, nearby where at least a couple record stores thrive (I hope). One is a killer jazz store, packed to the rafters with, e.g., sealed hat Hut LPs, etc. Can't remember the name...
