Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from July 29, 2022 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hello Ms. B et al. I am on vacation, so very little should be expected of me today.

Oh, what a shame. We'll miss you sooo much. (Can I have LG's seat?)

I will lower my expectations accordingly!

LG & doctorjazz are vacationing. I'm seeing if a raspberry popsicle can revive me.

Maybe "Coach comin' in" would be ideal every week.

Now that you have mentioned Clint Eastwood singing, I cannot be satisfied until I hear this. (I actually remember seeing the movie decades ago, but I didn't quite grasp the significance of that event.)

A poor choice of fruit slushie off the truck gave me dysentery-adjacent symptoms many years ago.

That Lucille Ball record looks like a bad idea writ large.

"I know a place that's quiet,
except for daisies running riot."
is one of my favorite lines in standards.

Bronwyn, I thought of you when I recently saw the film Death Becomes Her. The opening scene shows Meryl Streep performing in a musical that is so bad that the audience streams out during the first number, not even waiting for the intermission. Shades of closing on opening night (your recent DJ premium)!
Avatar 🎭 7:20pm

Wasn't that a musical of "Death of a Salesman"?

Unskinkable Molly Brown was one of the first musicals my parents took me too. We had the album so I had it memorized. I LOVE Tammy Grimes' voice!

@Gregory: I love this, now I'll have to watch this movie!!

Okay this song was... an idea.

@TonyR at 7:20, yes, with Bruce Willis in the title role and Goldie Hawn as Dustin Hoffman.

Maybe I'm thinking of the dinner-theater Salesman from "soapdish".

Is this your Irish New Jersey musical, Bronwyn?

Another quick hi, heading out to see crabs and sunset on the beach, quick fix for my WFMU habit.

Haven't been to Provincetown in 10+ years. Did they ever fix the failing/falling asphalt parking lot at the beach access point? It was one of those "untamed wild" experiences available up there, like stairs which formerly descended to now-washed-away beaches, or cottages at the edge of receding cliffs.
