I love Gong. They’re a huge rabbit hole of music. I played with Steve Hillage once, in a very different setting. In a swimming pool, to be specific.

Franco Twinkie:

I had to go to the store, so I'm a little behind, but here goes: I saw Arthur Lee when he first started playing with Baby Lemonade as his back up band at this basement dump called Raji's in Hollywood. Arthur was standing by himself so I said to myself "Should I?" I figured what the hell. I told him the 45 of 7&& Is was the first record I ever bought with my own money when I was eleven years old. He looked wary but then he soften and grabbed my hand and said "Thanks for coming to see me man!" They kicked ass that night and I was in heaven. Shortly afterwards Arthur went to prison.

  11:44pm
Carmichael:

Ha. A famous producer/engineer/performer had a house warming party in Santa Barbara, and I was invited. Lots of luminaries, and I was invited to sit in with a group of guys playing in the pool. Tag teaming in and out, and I realize I’m playing with Hillage, Christopher Cross, Steve Murphy and Godfrey Townsend. I think David Paton on bass. Who’s the odd man out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm
Franco Twinkie:

I could go on with my run-ins with the original Love. Should I?
Avatar 11:46pm
Sara A:

ah shit i'm gonna have to read these later, too distracted getting things together before i end. but please, continue!!
  11:48pm
Carmichael:

Just look up the artists and you can figure out who the head guy was. Loads of fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
coelacanth∅:

excellent Carmichael. i don't know who the odd man out is, as you years ago told me you go to lengths to keep your true identity concealed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm

Franco Twinkie:

If you say so Sara. When I was a person who got up in the morning and went to work I was a set dresser on TV commercials. We were breaking down the set one morning of a dog food commercial, the director of photography was walking off the stage. I said "Excuse me, were you in Love?" He looked at me astonished and said "How did you know!?" "Your name is on that Panavision rig sitting on a dolly track." I said. It was John Fleckenstein, also know as 'Fleck' the bass player when Love was still called The Grass Roots. We stood outside the stage and he told me all kind of stuff about what it was like been the undisputed kings of the street bands in Hollywood in 1965.
